Canadian High School students go to HKU

Hi, is there any one from Canada? We have not GPA. How to calculate the admission of HKU?

@ DREAMone

I’m from Canada, currently attending a Canadian high school. To be honest I’m not really sure how the “GPA” thing for admission to HKU is calculated, I think it depends on which province your in. You might find this useful:

[Non-JUPAS—University Entrance Requirements](http://www0.hku.hk/admission/nonjupas-uer.htm#canada)

From what I see here it seems they take an average from five of your senior courses, probs your best 5 courses? I’m really not too sure, its not written very clearly.

hi. I got my offer letter from HKU last friday for BBA(ACC&FIN).
I was expecting my IB conditional offer to be around 36~38, but surprisingly, my IB conditional offer was only “certification in IB diploma”. Does this happen a lot or am I the ‘weird’ one out here…? my friend says this only happens to ppl that are ‘highly-valued’ and are strongly wanted by the university. If this is the case, its just funny because HKU failed my IBGM spot =[

^any scholarships? that truly shows if you’re valued by the school or not.

hey…does anyone know how much it costs to stay in a hall in hku?

@dohyun05:
You are considered “highly valued” for the BBA Acc&Fin program.
Competition for a spot in IBGM under the nonjupas scheme this year is unprecedentedly high.

@TheGrand:

Ugh, I know. my friends and teachers said that I have a good chance at IBGM, but it turned out to be unsuccessful. And to be honest, I am not sure if BBA Acc&Fin is a competitive program in terms of the admission offers and reputation. I heard that the in-take for this program is quite high, which means that it is rather easy-to-get-in choice. Maybe I should have indicated Economics and Finance as my second choice… I heard that the program is more highly valued? I just don’t know if BBA ACC&FIN is really worth it =/

@dohyun: thanks u succeeded in making a lot of people waitlisted for the program feel like shiit

hey guys… i post my thread again so that more folks can get to c it…

badly want y’all to reply~~~

I used to be a tutor @CHS and a TA@New Oriental School. National Forensic League’s life-long member, Model UN member…

Never heard anything about interviews…

I was rejected by HKU(1st and 3rd choice) a week ago, and have not heard anything from CUHK and HKUST… I applied both of them before Jan. 2011… Does is mean that I have very little chances to get in?(since it’s kinda late and I guess they’ve already made their decisions).

Thanks a lot!!!

Hey everyone!

I’m a UK student, going on exchange to HKUST for the fall semester 2011 then onto South Korea to study at KNU in the spring semester.

Which halls are the best?! Most sociable… lively… and have international students, so like, UK, America, Europe etc?

Thanks!

JM

@jess: im korean, and i havent heard of such uni as KNU. i guess its
either SNU or KU?

DREAMone
which province are you from? i could tell you more if you studied under the Ontario curriculum…otherwise,the link cloudstrife posted can help you out

I hear good things about Hall 7.

To those people who are dejected about not getting into your 1st choice program, DON’T. HKU might not be the right fit for you, and it probably isn’t for many. I read this on a t-shirt today: The golden age is before us, not behind us. Maybe it’s cause I just felt like putting this quote here, but be optimistic. Don’t mull over your grades and what could’ve been, because your futures are gonna be great regardless of which college you go to.
Btw, I’m not entirely sure I’m going to HKU now, cause I didn’t feel like it was the right fit for me. Some people think I’m crazy for it, cause IBGM is such a great opportunity. So go take a campus tour, it is super important.

@verystressed
So true…i also did not get into HKU for Medicine but I don’t feel bad myself. I think I was not ready for all the pressure of medicine that quickly and wanted to chance to do an undergrad degree and get used to Hong Kong. Plus i think being at HKU for 8 years would have been a lot of years since I’ve been at my high school for 7 years–_-- being at one place for so long can get monotonous. But anyways just want to encourage everyone out there and I just heard HKUST is now ranked #1 in Asia. Altho this may not be the truth it made me feel a bit more motivated and a little better that i at least got into HKUST. Hold your head up high guys. Everything happens for a reason :)

how strong is hkust’s career services?

i got accepted into their Global China programme, but I am still keeping my options open for BBA at HKU. Which programme do you guys think offers better career prospects?

hey guys,can anybody help me out with my chances at hkust,hku,ntu and nus based on my cbse board results,i got a 87.2% overall with 89% in pcm(physics-80%,chemistry-94%,maths-93%,english-83%)
i also got 98% in maths in class tenth,does this brighten my chances of getting into bba as i have applied for it in all the four universities.since the subject requirement for bba is only maths,so with these scores anybody think i can get in???
really worried,applied in late march,expecting the outcome’s next week.
somebody please help out…!!!
