HKU or HKUST

Hello all, I’m back with more questions!

I just had my mocks and stuff and my predicted is around 36, not including the three extra points. I’m likely to get predicted 2 extra points, so my predicted will be around 38. I’m currently studying in an ESF international school, entering uni at 2012, and this is my incomplete shortlist right now:

HKU - BBA (Acc&Fin), BBA IBGM
CUHK - BBA GLOBE, BBA IBCE, Professional Accountancy
HKUST - BBA, Chemistry

Since HKUST no longer offers direct entry to Global Business, I can only go for BBA and work hard to get in the 2nd year. I know the global business courses I’ve selected are extremely demanding and probably expect 40+, but do you guys think I have a chance at all?

And here are my points for individual subjects, just in case.

A1 English SL - 5
B Chinese HL - 7
Business and Management HL - 6
Biology SL - 6
Chemistry HL - 6
Maths SL - 6

^if you’re international you’re good enough. if you’re local you still have loads of work to do to bring up that IB score of yours

@zhuangzi - I’m local, unfortunately. I’m still not sure about the HKUST Global Business arrangements, but just wondering, how many points did they ask for previously? Am I likely to receive an offer or interview for that then?

Just FYI, my extra-curricular activities and other stuff include school basketball and badminton team, Grade 5 piano and trumpet, HKAYP Bronze (completed), Silver and Gold (in progress, probably completed by the time I send my application), ESF Marketing Competition, TsingHwa University Chinese Summer Course and House Captain. However, my IGCSE scores are quite low, compared my IB scores, which might pull me down a lil’.

Hey guys,

Anyone who has received offers for medicine programme september 2011 intake? ive applied under international student category. Heard that they only receive one or two international students each year?

Application status on HKU website is currently…’ under consideration ’ …

I just called up hku and hkust regarding decisions by BDS and BEngineering and they said ill get bds latest by end of july and end of june for beng.

O.m.g.

@unholygrail: Will HKU reply for BENG 2011/2012 by the end of june for non jupas?

btw, what have u applied for?

Yeah I’m non-jupas. For HKU, my first choice is BDS, followed by Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. As for HKUST, its Mechanical Engineering followed by Chemical and Civil.

In April I was called for the BDS interview…i flew all the way from Malaysia to attend.

For HKU BENG i’m not sure, because I made a direct call to the Faculty of Dentistry.

Well I’m planning to get in to HKSUT following year but I’m not really sure if my scores are competent enough for it.(because the average of the students are getting higher every year)

are following scores
SAT 2090
TOEFL 109
SAT2 Math2C 800
Chemistry 760
AP Calculus 5
Physics C mechanics 4 or 5
Statistics 4 or 5

competent enough for HKUST???

help me please…

Ah an important thing…
I’m planning to major in chemical engineering or biochemical engineering

Hi,
I am a student studying at an international school in Hong Kong and am currently taking the IB. My predicted grades are as follows

English SL A1 6
French SL B 6
Math SL 5
Biology HL 6
Econ HL 6
Psychology HL 6

TOK/EE - A/B

My math is not that great and I am thinking of doing Math Studies to pull up my grade to a 7 in math. I was wondering if anyone on this site has got in to HKUST/HKU with math studies. I plan on doing BBA at HKUST/HKU. Please let me know if you think it would be fine to take up Math Studies. The admissions office said it was fine, however I am still rather skeptic about the idea as I feel they might look down on the applicant.
Would really appreciate any advice:)

Thanks
Mike

@messi - I’m not sure if this is correct, but in HKUST for Math Studies, they require you to get at least get 7, Maths SL 6 and HL 5. And which school are you attending?

hey guys, just got rejected by HKUST for my second choice (chemical engineering)

what are my chances of getting my first(mechanical) or third(civil)? My personal statement focuses mainly on structural and dynamics…is it likely to why they rejected my second choice?

Apply for the HKU BSc, no reply yet. just wondering when i can get the result?

Hi. I’m new to this forum. I received an offer from HKU in April and my status was changed from under consideration to conditional offer (subject to confirmation by formal letter from the faculty concerned) .I’ve been waiting for over a month and still no letter. Has anyone received a letter in the post from HKU about their confirmation?

Hey what have you applied for? and by what did they inform you about confirmation?
are you non jupas?

@qwerty901: Hey what have you applied for? and by what did they inform you about confirmation?
are you non jupas?

I applied as non jupas to study BSosc social sciences. I had an email from the social science department in april stating I was accepted but no confirmation letter in the post yet.

are there any indians who applied in march to hkust and have already recieved their results??
please tell getting really worried,i applied in late march and haven’t heard from them yet.
also i got a 87.2% in my boards(cbse) with 89% in pcm?what are my chances in bba or bsc.?

Hi Im new to this, im just wondering anyone could tell me how many marks i have to get in IB to get in Economics for HKUST, HKU, CUHK, btw Im currently getting a 35 not includin my bonus but the down thing is im getting a 4 for my HL maths

Just some quick answers.
@michaellui: No for IBGM, IBCE, GLOBE, PAC
@messi: Math studies will hurt your application for BBA anywhere in HK (and for that matter, many good universities overseas)
@qwerty: Mail the department politely, if not call them and make sure someone with authority from the admin dpt is on the phone.
@jonny: 35 is marginal, but 4 on HL Math will hurt your application, you will need a 5 at least.
