HKU or HKUST

anyone heard from HKU BDS yet?

@Addie91

nope. you?

@unholygrail no news :(

@addie91 i called them up and they said decisions will all be released in july end. are you a non-jupas too?

Hi,

I am currently taking a 3-year Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science in Australia (no honours) and I will complete all my modules by this July, although I will only receive my certificate at a later date. I have only spent 1.5 years in University due to exemptions.

I would like to try for a transfer to HKU/HKUST, however it seems that HKU and HKUST demands that you have completed ‘one year of University education’. Does that mean I am not eligible for a transfer?

Just some interesting news: lots of Chinese students with the best scores in their gaokao chose HKU over schools like Peking U, and they’re going to majors such as journalism, IBGM, etc. on a full ride.
Competition there will be insanely cutthroat.

^300 mainlanders out of what… 4000 students per year? they will be there but i don’t think competition would be as fierce as local high schools in china… but nonetheless those are the higher quality students in HKU. (I am a mainlander)

Yes, but more or less they will be the top students in everything they do. And then there are the hundreds of other equally bright students from mainland. Add that to the number of HK students. :smiley: No wonder people there say HKU is very competitive. (I am a mainlander too)

Hello to all,
I have received two un-conditional offer letters one from HKU and the other from University College London(UCL). At HKU if I accept I will be studying MS in Computer Science and if I accept UCL’s offer I will be studying MS in Machine Learning. I wanted to know which university is better in Computer Science? and which will give me a better chance at getting a good job afterwords?

My interests recently have shifted to Finance Computing, in particular I want to get a job as a Quantitative developer. Any advice will much appreciated. I have lived in both HK and London and have loved them both so I have no problem moving to either.

@babybob: Purely from job perspective - probably wherever you wish to work in the future. As both universities are very well recognised across the world - i think the distinguishing factor (from the job prospective perspective) is the career center and the links they have with local companies in each of their own locations.

Other factors of consideration could be: Finance, family and where you would want to live in the long run (since that may impact your ideal career location)

Hi everyone, sorry if this has already been asked - I was waitlisted by HKU for social science. Around what IB score is considered “sufficient” to be accepted for a non-JUPAS applicant?

Also, since I listed social science as my first choice course in my application, do I have to wait for the social science department to reject me before I am considered for the other courses that I listed as my second and third choices?

I have already emailed them but it’s been more than 5 days and still no reply :</p>

how’d i know if im being waitlisted by hku/hkust?

hey guys i got AAAA for maths,futher maths, physics and chem in my edexcel A-levels…do ul think i have a chance for admission to HKU/HKUST for engineering? thanks :
)

Guys what do i need to prepare for an interview for PAC programme cuhk???

@Interpretation
@unholygrail

I didn’t even know that HKUST would have something like a waiting list. If so, I am either on it or rejected. I applied to Research Masters in Biology and Marine Environmental Sciences, but so far, my application page only states that my application is “Under Consideration”

I just wonder if there is still a chance that I get accepted, considering the fact that I requested a scholarship. Tuition fee at HKUST is three times the tuition fee in the Netherlands. Last semester, I worked my ass off to attain a BSc cum laude (pretty much similar to First-class honors, I assume) in Biology, Chemistry and Earth Sciences. My GPA was 3.66.

Both are amazing, it depends on what you want to study and the… atmosphere/culture. The size of the campus can vary.

CUHK is just as good, if not better.

How “international” is HKU? Is English used outside class at all there?

hey guys,
i’ll be applying to hkust next year and the just wanted to know what the male to female ratio is like in the campus as well as the dorms? i heard that the place is very male dominated? but yeah, that is part of my motivation haha. thanks

hi everybody,
can you tell me where student can take foundation course and then enter HKU or HKUST?
thanks.

hi there,

are here any Germans who applied to HKUST or are gonna apply for the academic year of
2012?
how are my chances if I don’t have any awards, prices or extracurricular activities?
thanks in advance
