What will be my chance for getting into HKU/HKUST/CUHK with a full scholarship? Please try to be accurate and objective as possible!

@sol3920
Cant be accurate but I think-
Don’t think you’ll get any in HKU
And prob some in UST.

@TheGrand
is my SAT score a problem getting the scholarship? or is it my GPA? :frowning:
do you think i’ll at least get in? and which one should I improve?

hello. can anyone tell me if I can get into HKU or HKUST or CHUK?
I am a first year college student from the Philippines. I’m trying to get into business courses.

Sat score = 2100/2400
Toefl = 100/120
GPA = 3.8/4
then I graduated as a valedictorian from my hs.

for SAT II
Chem:700
Math 2c:800
Physics:730

then I am really active in extra curricular activities.
I do some hosting on TV shows
student council v.p.
choir president
and i do some community services.
and i don’t know if it helps but I was one of the top scorers in the college entrance exam of my current school.

@sol3920: I just don’t think HKU normally gives out scholarship… well of course if you are among the top few % of the candidates then sure, but I dont reckon those results put you up there, unless policies have changed then. UST I think some scholarship for sure, but to what extent I cant answer you that.
It depends on what programmes you are applying to.

@fluffy: Depends on the programmes you are applying to.

hi there! i registered here only to join the 2 year old discussion about HKU and HKUST.
@TheGrand: i am shocked you think sol3920 has no chance… i mean, his SAT results are pretty good and TOEFL as well.
@sol3920 - where are you from?
i have applied via fast track by 26 of October. I want to study Law. Well as you might have guessed, i come from Ukraine (Eastern Europe) well we do not have any SAT or IB, only English proficiency tests. Well, I am a second year student in the ā„– 1 university in my country. Have pretty good grades. Passed IELTS 7.0. Friends of mine told me that I will get accepted by HKU + a scholarship as well… but after reading TheGrands last post i am scared.
@TheGrand - hah, I guess my chances are even lower than FluffyNoly and sol3920 :)

@everyone
common, guys! If you want to study in Hong Kong write here! Let’s share some thoughts tips and ideas!
P.S i didn’t understand the new ā€œfast trackā€ system… could someone explain it to me? :D

@TheGrand : i want to apply to Global and international business. Or even just business administration (Marketing) will do. What do you think? :(

@Ukraine: I heard HKU gives more priority to GPA. I heard from someone that they don’t really give much importance to SAT. I dunno. :stuck_out_tongue: yeah it would be great if everyone shared what he knows. :D

@Fluffynoly well my school grades are mostly straight A’s we have a different grade system, but my school provided the equivalence table… My school exams were like A’s and entrance exams were like high enough even to get a full based scholarship… I also was hoping, that my extracurriculars are good enough… And I know 6 languages on Advanced level.
Btw, where are you from? :smiley:
Did you apply to other universities?

@ukraine haha thanks! well i’m an international student currently attending some high school in the united states…but my citizenship is korea. i really hope we all get in.
oh ^^^^^btw im not a guy! hahaha

@sol3920 I am girl too :smiley: well, it will be awesome if we all get accepted!
What is your 1 choice subject?
I have just received an email from HKU, saying, that they start to review applications two weeks after the supporting documents have been sent.

@ukraine: yeah im applying to CHUK and HKUST too. i really want international business and global management but it is really really hard to get in, like they only offer 35 slots (i think).
so i am kind of nervous. :(

@fluffynoly well I applied only to HKU, I am only interested in this uni . Well, there will the application status check in 2 weeks, but I am sure, that they will postpone it for another week…they like to postpone the deadlines :slight_smile: even if it is on time, I am sure there will be nothing there…
Don’t worry, both of you have great results! Did you apply somewhere else? I mean, USA, UK, Canada?

@ukraine nope. i really want to study in HK. i don’t know. HK unis have always been like my sole goal. haha. how about you? did you apply anywhere else?

and i haven’t even completed my application form for HKU. i still need my SAT I result. im retaking it on saturday. to see if i can get higher score :P

@fluffynoly well, I am going to apply to German universities, but my heart belongs to HK…I wish the HKU admission team knew, that I want to get accepted by HKU so badly!! :D

yeah. well good luck to both of us :P

@FluffyNolly Hi, I’m a general BBA student at HKUST right now. I’m not sure about how HKU works, but for HKUST, I’d say you have a chance at getting an interview for GBUS (Global Business). Your TOEFL score is a bit on the weak side; you might want to bump it up to 110 to be safe. Once you get an interview for GBUS, anything goes!

@hulkhogan88888 wow thanks so much for the info. i really appreciate it. yeah i am worried about my toefl too. but i heard as long as my scores in CR and writing are okay, they won’t even look at the toefl score. I am not even sure if i will submit toefl score since they don’t require it. hmmm

It’s better to be safe than sorry for your TOEFL score haha
