1st choice LLB - under consideration
2nd choice econs/finance - under consideration

any updates from other international applicants? It’s been a LONG wait.

Hi

I am applying for Master of Economics at HKU from Australia, seeing that some one else has already received an offer in this forum via e-mail. Does that mean first round offers has already gone out ?

Or do they review application and send offers out staggered fashion. (i.e over a span of 1-2 weeks).

Honestly I’d be happy to know one way or another so I can continue planning the rest of my year.

Hello,
Yesterday I received a conditional offer from HKUST. The program is BSc Global China Studies and the condition is to have GPA 5.6(out of 6) which is highly possible. As well as that, I have a scholarship offer with 80000 hkd for the first year and 30000 hkd for every year after. I should pay the deposit fee of 20000 hkd by 2nd of April but this is still a large amount of money for the standards of my country. There is a possibility that I will not be able to pay the fee on time. What should I do in this case?

i got 34 ib predicted and i have done quite a lot of extracurricular activities will i have a chance getting conditional offer at hkust economic&finance or risk management ?

Hello petrovp, I think in that case it is better to contact with the school and ask them to help you with making installment or providing more amount of scholarship than they already offered.

Hey guys! I am a Sri Lankan citizen who applied to hku last December. Please do tell me if I have a chance of being accepted to the courses I applied to based on my grades.

I applied for the MBBS as my first choice, with BBiomed and Bsc being my 2nd and 3rd choices respectively.

The grades I attained for my Cambridge IGCSEs are as follows:
Math- A*
English as Second Language A*
Chemistry A*
Biology A*
Physics A*
Information and Communication Technology - A*
French as a Foreign Language - B
(Cambridge GCE O Level) Islamiyat - B

I got the following for my A Levels:
Chemistry A*
Biology A
Physics B.

Do you guys think I have any chance of getting into hku’s Mbbs program?? Please do tell me because I haven’t heard from them at all. I’m a nervous wreck.

@feardgear

Yes. I received the email a few days ago. The website says that the first round offers go out around mid-march. Second round is around April.

I applied/sent my documents 24 hours before the deadline so I don’t think it has anything to do with when you apply.

The email said something like, “I am pleased to inform you that the MEcon Admissions Committee, blah blah, has decided to make you a conditional offer* in the HKU Master of Economics Programme blah blah. Your letter will reach you by post in due time.”

It could be that not all offers have gone out? I’m honestly having a very difficult time finding people who have applied to the course. What background do you have?

My background:

I’m in my final year of BSc (Information Technology) from a very small college (it isn’t even the best college in a 5 km radius).

I got an 8.5 in IELTS and I didn’t give GMAT/GRE. I don’t have any work experience. I actually wanted to do MSc Finance. But, the course is too expensive. The economics course lets you pick a few courses from the finance course. I know that I would never get the job I wanted with my current background. That is why I chose to do MSc Economics.

those of you who received decisions did it arrive first by email or on the application status?

@shak. You’ll need to know how to speak fluent cantonese. MBBS is catered towards locals who will serve Hong Kong, as there is a deficit of physicians in Hong Kong. Even if they select you for interview, it’ll be in both cantonese and english.

MBBS has a reputation to not accept non-locals. Most of the “non-chinese” looking people (around <1% of MBBS student population) have a permanent residence in Hong Kong and they can speak very fluent cantonese.

Hey guys!

I applied way back in November but my choices ares still all under consideration (I check every single day) how likely is it that I am going to be rejected?

@zhuangzi Thanks for the info  It’s sad sad to know that I have absolutely no chance on getting in :frowning: I hope they do make a few exceptions. But I don’t why they just aren’t rejecting my application for MBBS straight off? It’s been so long since I applied and the wait has been agonising. In that case, if I do accepted for the Biomedicine major, how can I utilize that major to get into a program in Medicine, like an MBBS or M.d program?

Does anyone know how many rounds of offers HKU has?

How about dentistry? Anyone get an interview already or an offer

@shak. Biomed is a new degree that is offered this year, and in the perspective of an employer I personally would be quite reserved into hiring these graduates as there are no precedents to refer to. Not to say that there are no chances, but I (in my opinion) see that there are quite limited options given the fact that the Science/Med job market here isnt too big.

if you’re shooting for an MD, youre only hope is to study abroad for post-graduate outside of hong kong. FacMed offers MPhil and PhD programs, so I’d doubt you can practice medicine with those degrees if you dont have an MBBS after all they are research degrees catered towards laboratory work. If i remember correctly the Biomed degree will only accept 40 students per year so you’ll be heading for some competition, plus there’s no guarantee of how hard is it to get good GPA and stuff as this is the first year theyre introducing the program.

they’re incredibly slow and even slower due to the introduction of the 4 year program (they’re even pushing the beginning of semester 1 by a full half months…). Same goes with other faculties. You guys should be patient as a group of 20-30 people have to coordinate 50000+ applications in between different faculties. Getting your results around now would be considered normal… Giving offers is quite a bureaucratic process right here.

@zhuangzi Hi, I’m also applying to the mbbs program at HKU like shak, but I’m a non-jupas candidate and I previously had an interview for the fast-track scheme in December. I’m a third-year life science student in Canada currently. What do you think are my chances of getting in with a 3.75 GPA. I’ve done a lot of extra-curricular work and volunteering, but I heard HKU doesn’t really care too much about that : / Thanks for any insight!
