HKU or HKUST

does anyone know what is the safe SAT score for CUHK? because I only see it requires a score of 8 on the essay. thanks

@aditya496 DEEP SYMPATHY Indeed the waiting is the most painful part! But lets hold on and its just a month away until we can get our results  I went to the HKU admission talk yesterday and the FBE faculty assistant said most offers will be given by the end of April (starting from March). May I ask what school did you apply to? For FBE, the conditional offer requirement for IB is 35-37 points for the 2013 intake.
Btw did you graduated in 2012? I am a bit curious since you seem to have 2 IB results…

Lastly, wish we all get in :)))

Gale

hello Gale!
thanks for your reply (little chats here are a big help to all of us). I had given all my IB papers in May 2012 and after my miss with HKU, I decided to re give 3 IB papers in November 2012, and managed to increase 2 points. i now have a 35 total IB score with Math HL 6 and Eng A1 SL 6 and am looking for admission to FBE, HKU. Also this time I have applied to HKU/UST/CUHK. (last year I had only applied to HKU and some Singapore colleges!!)
I would really like to know what was discussed at the HKU talks on your open day. Did they really say that 35-37 was the minimum they will look for? you can mail me at aditya496 at gmail com Would really appreciate whatever info you have on FBE

Best to you too,
Aditya

Hello, I’m an IB student as well. I applied to HKU with a predicted score of 36, without bonus. Do you think i’ll get into GBM?

@hk12345

imho, HKU Business School ranking is much lower than HKUST and CUHK
HKUST BS is more reputable in international Business school circle and has good connection with hk finance industry. It is still targeting higher
CUHK BS is the oldest one in HK and do have connection with HK local company
HKU is good in general reputation

@anthony7666 On the website HKU stipulates that the minimum SAT Reasoning score for applying to the university is 1800. The actual score varies from faculty to faculty. According to the reply from FBE faculty assistant to the exactly same question, the SAT requirement depends on the quality of the pool of applicant of the year. I would say a competitive score should be 2000+ and a safe one 2200 (again, it depends on the faculty; for Law, the MINIMUM is 2250). However, for non-local applicants, HKU generally places more value on their GCE A-level and IB score than on their SATs.

Nevertheless, supporting your application with a decent SAT mark won’t hurt :)

Hi Aditya, it seems like we were in quite the same situation last year because I only applied to one school in HK too and, I was actually schooled in Singapore, haha!
And don’t worry too much about the points…it is not a minimum but rather what they ask for applicants on their conditional offer, which means it is very likely for students with 35 and more to get in HKU this year  The faculty talk also mentioned some information about credit transfer, overseas exchange, internship opportunities and career prospect and so on. Their statistics shows that the average salary for FBE graduates (excluding those with dual major) is about HKD15,000 per month, one aspect that interested me haha.
And I’d like to chat more about university and gap year and stuff, you can also email me at whn940119 at hotmail

Best wishes
Gale

@guitarchampion May I ask if GBM is the same as IBGM (international business and global management) ?
(I am not very familiar with the abbreviations haha sorry "P)

Hey all applicants of HKU. I just checked my application status…Still under consideration…How about you guys?

@ elisexia, which program have you applied for at HKU and what are your credentials if you dont mind me asking
“Under consideration” for Econ at HKU

Mine still says under consideration Engineering, Econ-finance, and Quantitative Finance

BTW my scores are 42/45 IB points:
Maths HL 6
Physics HL 7
Economics HL 7
English A L&L 6
Spanish AB Initio 7
Chemistry Standard Level 6
Extended Essay + Theory of Knowledge 3

@^ BJ , I am taking Singapore A Level.( I applied with my prelim grades & predicted grades) Result will be out next month.

HEY GUYS -

For all you HKU applicants who applied for scholarships, under the application status page, does it display the scholarship status as well? I applied for a scholarship but I only see three "Under Consideration"s for my 3 choices of curriculum. I see nothing about my scholarship application.

Worried XD

^ mine too. Same situation as you

Alright - then I’m convinced it’s normal  thanks!

Noticed you’re singaporean! I’m Singaporean-American living abroad. Hehe I miss our little city  Did you apply to NUS? I have, but I hear they take FOREVER to give internationals decisions.

On a side-note, does anyone know the IB offer for BBA(Law)? I know the LLB offer my friend got was 39 without bonus…which is freaking insane.

@dubyawhy Hi, Nice to meet you. I haven’t apply for local U because I’m still waiting for my results.( According to SEAB it would probably be released between 1-5 March) Then may be attend open house before I really make a decision.
Anyway, most likely I’m going to apply NTU’s mass comm. if I cant get into HKU !!! Cant find any course in NUS that is of my interest.
Just heard that local Unis are cutting down intl student intake because they want to give more chance to local students. But not sure how bad it’s gonna affect the intake of this year. All the best to you!!!:)

@dubyawhy For BBA (Law) the conditional offer requirement for the 2013 intake is IB 40 (with bonus I think :P).

@bluetimberland

thanks bud! :)

Can I ask how you know this? And how do you know it’s WITH bonus o-o everybody told me HKU Law only gives offers WITHOUT bonus XD

Did they release the results or what? The hku login website is down

When will usually the main round decision be out for hku/hkust?im waiting and its taking forever…
