HKU or HKUST

PLEASE REPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

Hi guys! I’m an international student in America from the Philippines and also an incoming senior. I’ve been dreaming of going to these two schools ever since I was in 8th grade )): Like, literally, I’m so in love with the programs they have and the fact that they’re based in HK! (favorite city in the world). I was wondering if they (HKU & HKUST) would accept me based on the grades and EC’s I’ve had so far:

GPA (weighted): 4.28
(unweighted): 3.98

SAT I: 1730 (First try without studying/reviewing)
ACT: Taking it this saturday.
SAT II Chinese - 750
SAT II US: Just took it. (scores will be available on the 26th of June)
APUSH: tba (I had an A in my class so idk if that will help)
AP English Language: tba (also had an A)

EC’s:
Student Government - International Directors and Vice President
Prom Committee
Senior Adoption Committee (something unique that takes place in our school where we auction seniors to other grades as “servants”)
Yearbook
NHS
Junior Honor Guard (for graduation)
Various community services (i.e. LA food bank, Make-a-wish foundation, etc.)

I am planning to apply for their business program and are taking classes that can benefit me most. (i.e. AP Econ, AP Comparative Gov…)
I know that my SAT I score is very bad. I’m aware of that, that’s why I’m planning to review and study for the test this summer and retake it again in October. Hopefully, I’ll get at least an 1800-1850 ): I am soo nervous that I won’t get to reach their minimum requirement… I know that HKUST accepts ACT scores, and hopefully I’ll get at least a 27-29 on the test!
Also, since I was an international student (came in during sophomore year), I didn’t get a chance to participate in as much organizations in my school ): but I had plenty during my freshmen and junior year, hopefully that’ll compensate for my lack of activity during sophomore year ((:

Thank you so much!

^ Your SAT is worrying and I can’t tell whether you have SAT II math or AP calculus cause you need it for business

Can people post stats and decisions? I’m a rising junior and have no idea what the avg. stats of admitted HKU students are. (Although I know it’s a very competitive uni)

My dad has a company in Hong Kong so he wants me to go to HKU or HKUST and learn international trade from him. I want to get into the Global Business programs (which I heard is pretty competitive). I was born and raised in Canada and go to a mediocre public school. I do not need FA.

SAT: 750 CR 760 WR 600 Math (defs raising this to 700)
SAT II: World History (700), Chines (800), Lit (hoping for 720+)
APs: Psych (5), World History (5), Euro (5), Human Geo (5), Comp Gov (5)
School rank: top 10%
GPA: Around 3.88

ECs:

MUN – head of school club, deputy sg of school conference, chief of staff for a 600 delegate conference, sponsorship for a 400 delegate conference, deputy sg for a 700 delegate conference, many awards and staffing positions

Politics: volunteer for politician, volunteer for liberal party, election officer for provincial elections, elected premier of youth parliament etc etc

Women’s rights: founder of a local branch of a non profit, cofounder and director of corporate relations/marketing for a girls rights conference, speakers bureau member for a ngo, helping research and write a book on girls rights, volunteer at rape relief shelter etc etc

Debate/speech: ranked 3rd regionally, qualifier for provincial championships, finalist for largest high school debate tournament in Canada, coach for school teams, organizer of school tournaments, finalist for law cup etc etc

*also founded the first international branch of another registered non profit (focusing on education for inner city kids). Director of human resources for three years now and manage over 200 personnel

*selected to help host an annual business conference for UBC

*also accepted to UPenn’s LBW program but didn’t go.

I also have some other stuff but too tired to list them out. Do I stand a good chance? How competitive is my app? If I am Canadian, do I still need to submit SATs?

Hi, I applied for 2014 admission, however, I got rejected by HKU
for your information, I am a straight As student for Singapore A level, and I got full scholarship from both NUS and NTU, really don’t know why HKU did not even offer me a place
PS I applied for bachelor of science (not really competitive right…)

I applied to HKU, HKUST, CUHK for the 2015 intake… (Engg)

I’m applying for the early round at HKUST as an American student, but from what I’ve looked at there isn’t a big enough group of applicants/current students to weight my scores against for admission chances.

With an SAT of 2250 and strong extracurricular what would my chances be at getting into the engineering program?
I know math is probably the most important of the SAT subjects and I scored an 800 on that so I’m thinking it should be a big help. I’ll be taking subject tests in December and submitting them after the initial application is turned in.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help point me in the right way!

Hey guys, I’m new to this forum. I applied for hku, hkust and cuhk for business course. Fast track. Predicted grade for A2 is 2A*2A. But I’m considering dropping one subject, which would leave me with 3 subjects in A2 but 4 in AS. Anyone has any idea whether the conditional offer they give is normally 3/4 subjects so I can make up my mind whether to drop? And with my expected grades, how high is the probability of me getting an offer? Big thanks to anyone who could help.

Hi Guys!

This is Mohith, a student under the Faculty of Social Sciences at HKU! Feel free to post any kind of doubts or queries related to HKU and I will try my best to clarify your doubts!

Constance according to admission criteria for A levels, students need to Pass (competitive applications must have outstanding/excellent grades in all the electives!) in three GCE Advanced Level / International Advanced Level subjects, not including any language subjects in English / Chinese. Please refer to this link for more info- http://www.als.hku.hk/admission/file/upload/494/GAR.pdf

Of course you stand a chance to get admission but it all depends on the quality of applications that the Admissions section receive this year. Since Dec 30 2015 is the application deadline, it is better if you submit your online admission application asap and don’t forget to apply for scholarships!

@mohith96 Did you also apply to HKUST?

No I didn’t apply to HKUST.

Thanks mohith96. I have already submitted my application for the fast track round. Waiting for the early round decision now. Hoping that I get the conditional offer.

Did anyone get an offer from hkust early round?

@uniboundjamy‌ I applied early round to HKUST engineering and received nothing yet. Does it mean I am deffered to regular round ?

I think they should notify us if we are deferred. Even I applied for engineering. Let me know if you receive anything, I’ll do the same here.

Same here. Waiting desperately for the email. But apparently some received theirs like 2-3 hours ago. So I think we are most likely to be deferred to the main round. Plus the office hour is passed.

Ive also been waiting for so long…No Mails Yet ;( @Constance56 @uniboundjamy @rosbo3

Same for me, but I’m holding out until the end of the day in case something about it is automated. Best of luck to you guys, be sure to let us know if you hear anything.

On a side note, be sure to check your guys’ actual application status instead of just email, just in case something’s changed there

Bit curious. When an offer comes out for HKUST and HKU, how long does one have to wait to accept/decline the offer? Does this conflict with RD release dates for American schools?
