@Anand:You should probably notarize the copies of ur certificates and send them…

Alexavier: hey if u still watching this thread, just to let you know i received my offer letter to HKU into the BECON & FIN programme a couple of days ago… have u heard back from them regarding the scholarship??

To anand78 & kyubaek: i actually sent my application to HKU on the 31st of december and i only got my offer letter a couple of days ago… and regarding certified copies, they gave me an offer letter but was subjected i gave them my certified copy of graduation cert and entrance score which i sent over few days ago… so if u dont give them ur certified documents also, they may still offer u a place like me… but then after that u have to sent the certified copy. I got it from my head of school. I graduated at the back end of last year but he still signed it for me, no hassle… Hopefully it would be a smooth process for you too…

Just one note, getting the offer is one thing, but trust me, visa application, accepting the offer, accomodacation application, etc… all the forms u need to fill is more stressful than waiting for the offer… experiencing it now but knowing ur going to one of the top uni’s in the world makes it all worth while!!

Hey does anyone know when HKU stops giving out offers ? I’m soooo anxious :-< I actually applied the last day - 28/1. Also I got in DePauw with 44k fin aid (I hate the school though) so I’m wondering if HKU offer will arrive before May 1…

@prajnak and Joshtn-thanks guys, ill try and get it certified by an official or something

@penguin-lol…you have loads of time left…HKU give out offers usually only from april
People getting offers now are the ones who applied early like Nov-december…
you will get decision by May1…
expect it around mid april at best…

Chance me for IBGM??
Predicted grades
HL Buisness: 7
SL Chemistry:7
SL Economics:7
SL Mandrain:7
HL Math:6
HL English:5
Bonus:2

41/45

Have decent amount of ECAs

Carmelowong: Great score! Very strong chance, if you had a 6 for English that would be such an amazing score, it still is dont get me wrong… Within ECAs, if you have done stuff related to leadership and have some work-experience/internship, then you should most definitely make it! Good Luck!

Joshtn: I know all about that. I’m currently in Tokyo doing a semester before going to HK,

and it’s quite hard. It’s not that way with HK, but most of the locals here in Japan don’t

understand English and I have to get by with my short Japanese… But, the visas and all

that pre-arrival stuff was surprisingly not that hard or time-consuming…

@Anand: Yeah, I know clearing is where they take up students to fill up any remaining spaces right? So I guess you dont need really good grades to get through clearing…

Yeah, I’m on a gap year right now…I applied to cambridge last sept…what about you?

And about certified docs…I just went straight up to my school and got copies of my docs certified by the principal but I think you can even get them certified by the embassy or somethin…I pretty surprised they dont allow you to go back to your school to get documents and stuff…

Now whats going on in our FB group?

@ Joshtn- Cograts man I applied for the same major on the 30th of Jan… i knw its pretty late. Btw dude, can u pls let me knw wen u applied and bout ur scores, eca’s. It wud be a g8 help coz i can start comparing the strength of my application and start predicting the probable outcome. Thank U :D

hi there, i am applying to HKUST for 2010 Fall semester, Computer science major, but i follow the local institution path, which require 8s for math, physics or chem and the overall, and it’s kinda bit hard.

how’s life in HKUST?is it hard?

ivnpolaris: I’m no expert on HKUST or any of the HK unis for that matter, but I remember

sme on this thread mentioning HKUST stands for Hong Kong University of Stress and

Tension.

Kyubaek90: People who dont get into HKUST spread those rumors… and then again all great Universities need you to work a lot too, think of Georgia Tech, Illinois, Stanford et cetera…

Sarthak19118: Yeah it seems so. It’s natural that a university of HKUST’s calibre

would require a lot of work. Plus, since ppl have to finish in 3 yrs what others finish in

4, a little more work isn’t all that surprising…

And some more info for ivnpolaris.

This was sth I heard directly from the prof at HKUST. She said that the dorms could seem

a little small compared to other dorms. She also said that most exchange students (who

are from Europe or the US) usually complain about the size of the dorms and the size of

the bed… But for most asian students I heard that it’s an adequate amount of space.

Other than that, everything else is fantastic. Half of the dorms (the int’l house) has a

view of the seashore from the balcony, and the view is actually great. (I visited

HKUST so you can count on me for that). I’m not sure about the engineering department,

but I heard life overall at HKUST is really satisfactory. I have a friend in Korea that has

friends at HKUST and they seemed really satisfied with the school.

HKU just sent me a link in an email saying that i can now check my application status online but when i click on that link, it just says “You will be able to check the status of your application through our online enquiry system in April 2010.” Is it just me whos having trouble checking the application status? or is everyone having the same message?

If I go through HKU’s website and click check app status, it gives me the same message. Can you post the link you got in your email?

[Non-JUPAS Application](http://www.hku.hk/admission/nonjupas-application.htm) this is what they gave me.
you ahve to click on another tab tho as this one doesnt lead straight to application status.

Guys,it will be available from 1st april i think…
i got the same email…Its not functioning yet

Yeah I got the same email as well, and it’s not working :s

Yeah, even I got the mail from HKU although I already got the offer…nothing happens until April I think…

@kyubaek90: lol that was me who mentioned that HKUST stands for hk uni of stress n tension…I heard it from a friend who studies at HKUST. He did say it was pretty hard to catch up with the work at the beginnin…but I think you get used to it later.
You said you visited HKUST? How did you find it? How are the living standards and stuff there?
