HKU or HKUST

kenhungkk: Suicide rates doesn’t mean anything. My high school recorded at least 3 every year until my year.

Suicidal mostly concerns with special individuals that feel the program is too overwhelming and can’t take the pressure.

But, I do take your word because nothing is better than a local’s point of view.

Would you mind if I PMed a question to you??

Having it written, I do admit that suicidal rates are some indicator of an intensiveness of

a school. But not all…

I just surfed on the web and found out that HKUST’s engineering dept was found to be the 5th best in asia and 25th in the world.
WOW…!! THATs something…
n do not wrry bou the suicidal rates … it is common in every college. It just depends on how one manages your course work and time. You can very well manage your play, fun and study if u want to… this is wot i say from pers experience…

Is it that if u dont get into hall 7 … ur fun life is screwed …??

Is HKU BBA Accounting and Finance major a three-year course or four-year course?
I heard HK is changing its education system?

oldnite1: I’m not sure, but I think it will depend on whether you completed a foundation

year or not. Look up the HKUST website. It must contain the details.

I got and offer of admission from the University of Amsterdam today! Same programme as HKU (humanities). The choice isnt hard, I’m going to HKU!

Anyways, I have a completely random question I hope some of you can answer: I read somewhere that the beds in the halls are really small. I’m 6’4. Will the bed be too small?

@kenhungkk - Glad to read that the local perspective is that HKU rocks the humanities:D

@Alec: Youre 6’4?! that’s crazy! Do you have dutch ancestry or something?

@kyubaek: so do you think having completed the IB Diploma will allow me to skip my foundation year?

HKU’s application status checker is online!!! Mine still says “under consideration” though :(.

@rebecca1234: Sorry for the late reply, I’ve been so busy with schoolwork. ^^; I live in Eastern Canada, so chances are you probably haven’t heard of the uni before, haha. I’m a bit afraid to say the name in a public forum because classmates might be able to recognize it’s me. I’ll PM you the university if you want though!

Ok, I just paid my application fee for HKUST, but I still get the pop-up saying that I need to submit my application. Did this happen to you? I thought that perhaps HKUST was just waiting for the money to transfer but now I’m not too sure. I put in my dad’s credit card number and then I had a pop-up that said “Transaction Details”. It basically looked like this: http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/9730/hkusttransaction2.png

Should I have continued on? I thought it was over because the screen that came up was about securing/activating an option offered by the bank for my dad’s credit card, which I wasn’t interested in doing, and there wasn’t any other link to continue…

@Anand: I though you were favoring HKUST?

@jiceo1: Are you studying at UCLA?

@AlecDluz: If I was you, I would go to Uni of Amsterdam :P

Maybe you should mention your height when you apply for accomodation.

@Lordxxx- i am still favouring HKUST over HKU because HKUST seems better for engineering …But i hear stories of how hard the course in HKUST is and that makes me think otherwise…i think both options are good but i guess ill have to decide soon…
did you get an offer from HKU?? scholarship??

@Alecduz- I am 6’1 and i was concerned about the same earlier as i hear the rooms are really cramped but yeah, you are waaay taller…
you might want to check it with the admission /housing office…

-oldnite1: I think that’s the way of it. I’m not sure though. It’s best to ask the school

about it. I asked the prof about it during the interview and they kindly told me.

-EliteGeek: So does mine…

-AlecDluz: Damn you’re tall… My cousin brother is 6’6 and I have to look up at him every

time I meet him…

Well, it’s not that bad sleeping in fetal-postition all the time, I guess, haha.

@LordXXX - Why Amsterdam U over HKU?

(I actually am in a bit of a doubt myself, as I got into the AUC departement, which is established as a small selective Honours college, and “co-owned” by Amsterdam University and VU Amsterdam University. Regarding academic issues, economic issues (cheaper to study in Netherlands), and future prospects, I think this might be a “safer” choice than HKU. On the other hand, living in the Netherlands will be rather similar to living in Norway…)

Nevermind, I figured it out. ><

One (hopefully) last question, what documentation can I provide to prove “Documentation related to studies taken which the language of instruction was English”? I know it’s probably something really obvious but it’s not coming to me at the moment, haha…

A textbook? I’m assuming its something along the lines of that, though I haven’t heard any of my relatives talking about documentation of any sort…

I got an email from HKU, in which says that i made an admission offer for BBA acc&fin.

But, when i checked online status on the HKU website, my app status under BBA acc&fin is still under consideration.

does anyone has a similar situation? I am very confused…

HKUSTYAY: Dont worry mate Hk Universities tend to update the online system a bit later than the release of the actual decision…

Hello ppl
