HKU Residential Halls

So I’m going to be an exchange student this coming fall, and I was looking at the different housing accommodations at HKU. Which ones do you guys suggest and why? So far I’ve put Simon and Swire at the top of the list just because they are located on campus, but that’s it. Is there a general vibe or stereotype you get from each different residential hall? Thanks.

generally halls at hku are really different from dorms in america and other places. They each have some sort of “culture”, sort of like a cult. I am staying this year in Simon and basically people are required to do “contributions” to hall like join hall teams etc which you will find to be rewarding or an utter waste of time. Since you’re an exchange student it wont really affect you much, you will not really be required to do much. The bad thing about halls is that they are mostly local and cantonese is used as a medium of speaking most of the time. As a nonlocal it may be hard for you to communicate but there will always be some other nonlocal students on your floor.

dont know how helpful this was but feel free to ask me anything else. Swire and Simon ky lee are definately the most convinient. As for “internatinal”, it would probably be residential college, or maybe starr

im pretty worried about the halls in hku. ive heard that the locals expect a lot? is that true?

yes, but if you’re an international student they will not expect as much from you.
