Holiday Gift Shopping -- 2025 edition

I just bought 5 electric proctor silex tea kettles because several seniors on Angel Tree requested them. The price was much better on Amazon than the prices at the mall, so ordered them on Amazon and will take them to the mall when they’ve arrived.

Also bought anti-nausea sport wrist band that my BIL swears by for H. It was on sale for 20% off. ($200 instead of $250). H tends to get motion sick and we don’t want him ill on the ferries in Scandinavia. The band is “reliefband.” The tried others that were less expensive but liked this one best. This one is rechargeable so you don’t have to fiddle with tiny batteries. Of course, YMMV as it doesn’t work for all people.

I think I am done. A few stocking stuffers for S, D and SIL (I will give them money), grandkids gifts bought, wrapped and ready!

We’re away for 2 weeks, returning a week before Xmas so all physical gifts are purchased and wrapped. I’ve learned that it is best for me to get shopping done early so I don’t stress. Will pick up a couple of gift cards and other stocking stuffers when I’m home. Money is main gift for kids at this point.

Hmm… I probably should have posted my request for Immersion Blender recommendation here. If you have suggestions, please reply at Stocking Stuffers thread - Stocking Stuffers - 2025 edition - #44 by Colorado_mom

I think it’s too late for this Christmas, but I am thinking about having a little book made up of various family memories, so it will be both pictures and words. Does anyone have any recommendations of where I could get this done? If it were just pictures, I could do Shutterfly or something like that, but I don’t think the words (some family stories, some poems etc) would come out well there.

You’ve used Shutterfly before, right? You can change the size and color and font to make it stand out better. It works better on the photobooks than it does on their gifts and cards.

It’s been a few years since I used mixbook, but what I did like about that was that you could add borders around the pictures to make them pop off the page. You might have been able to change the background color of the text box as well, but not positive about that.

Pinhole press lets you do that for their customizable board books, (i set the font to the smallest size) Unfortunately their sale just ended, but my guess is there will be another one soon. (Edit: not sure about the ability to layout the text a certain way. I just buy the board books. Photo on one page, text on the opposing page, font all one size)

You can do this with shutterfly. Switch to advanced mode in editing (there’s a toggle button on the right top corner of the screen) and then you can add text boxes and type in any text you want on the page. Change the size of the text boxes and also adjust/fit the pictures as needed.

Anyone ever order from Piglet in Bed?? D1 has a robe from there on her list.

DH needs new Kiziks. They were on sale for half price and I didn’t know if he wanted black or white soles. He was asleep so couldn’t ask. So I bought both! Also got him new hokas. Already purchased bunch of small gifts for the kids/ grandkids that we brought in a suitcase. :luggage: . Ordered a Toni- 2 with headphones and a few of the little statue things that make it work. That’s about it.

Thanks!

You could use Storyworth – you receive emailed writing prompts , and the ability to add photos as desired. Then at the end of 12 months, you get ahardover book with all your answers and photos. My sibling gave us these one year (it’s technically a subscriptio )

Any recommendations for leather/canvas messenger bags? S has one right now from Mark and Graham that he likes. But he doesn’t want me to buy the same thing again - just something like it

My daughter used Artifact Uprising to make me a photo book with a story she wrote to go with the pictures of me and my granddaughter.

I bought an expensive leather messenger bag for my son from Clayton and Crume, a small local company. I told him he should use leather conditioner on it 2-3 times a year to keep it in good shape. I am a little doubtful that will happen.

Two Christmas ago I bought my son a leather shoulder messenger bag from the Coach Outlet. He is the king of losing things even as an adult but he covets and loves his bag!

@greenbutton and @arisamp thank you both for the ideas! I’m starting to think that I’ll do a couple of different projects, one for a wedding present, Storyworth for Christmas with my parents, and one for my H’s big birthday on the horizon.

Well, the Lole rain jacket arrived and it is indeed oversized (and a bit frumpy), but it does fit OVER my warm coat and should keep me dry. It does have a handy carry sack with 2 shoulder straps that is attached to the inside of the jacket for easy toting when not wearing it. It’s grey rather than the blue I thought it was in the photo. It was great at 1/2 price.

We did the “has the package arrived” check today. The only one that was an issue was mine, for me. I called Ulta and they are resending, no problem. I’m glad I didn’t have to make a stink about it.
