Hong Kong University MPhil Accecptance Possibilities

I am a current senior at the University of Minnesota, majoring in geography. I am currently at a 3.17 (will most likely graduate around 3.3) which I know isn’t the most competitive GPA but am still hoping to pursue a graduate degree. I have always wanted to go to HKU but haven’t found the time in my undergrad degree as I am a transfer student already. The biggest selling point I will have is my senior research project which I will conduct in Shanghai next Spring '14. I have great resources and contacts there and will conduct the paper on the Chinese educational system’s disregard for the floating population. I know this project will go over well (I have been putting it together for some time now) and my grades have been getting better each semester from low B’s/B’s to A’s.

The biggest worry I have is that HKU’s website states that candidates are required to have graduated with honors from their undergrad. As this is not a possibility I need some insight on what I can do post graduation to build my profile. I was planning on teaching English in Shanghai after I graduate and searching for some junior research possibilities through the U of M or elsewhere (internships and the like) but am open to all possibilities.

Any help on how the process at HKU works for the MPhil program would be great! Any other ideas would also be appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

You better contact the faculty you are interested to work with. That significantly increase your chance. After all, it is very easy to enroll the grad school in HK.

Could you elaborate a little more on your response? For example, by contacted my interested faculty am I doing so to make contact with specific professors in hopes on a reference? How exactly does this increase someones chances on being accepted?

Also, by easy to enroll are you referring to the actual process or do you mean that HKU has a high acceptance rate??

Thanks again.
