D2 taped a couple episodes of this show today and we watched one tonight.
As far as I know, it’s a new show - I haven’t seen it before.
Two prospective house buyers in two different cities look at 3 houses each both house buyers have the same budget. The show is one hour and similar to HH - but you get to see 6 houses in the hour - 3 for each buyer. At the end they choose one, and they reveal the price it was bought for and show how they redecorated/moved in.
Tonight we watched one that featured home buyers in Milwaukee and Savannah. Both had $300,000 budgets. I was ticked off at the Milwaukee couple for the house they chose (won’t give it away!) but really enjoyed the show.
Kind of like HH but with two couples and an hour show (which when DVR’d can be watched in about 45 mins or so.
No but I recently watched the very best House Hunters International episodes of all time on Amazon Prime – one of the renovations seasons! The best episode was the one where the Laguna Beach couple bought a spectacular old, crumbling farmhouse in Burgundy and turned it into a spectacular showpiece. I like those shows when they are aspirational!
I had it on for sound while I was working in another room – the one I listened to had one family in Alaska and one in Hawaii. What was fascinating was that for the same money, you could get a shack in Hawaii and a mansion in Alaska.
I’ll have to check it out. I love watching House Hunters, even though I know they are going to pick the house with no furniture. I just love listening for “SS appliances”, “must have gas stove”, “this is a nice space”, “it has a lot of natural light”, etc. (Think drinking game.)
Has anyone watched the lake homes or log cabins shows? At first I was thrown by the fact that none of the homes are unfurnished. (In case you are unaware, the only way to get on these shows is to have already purchased a home, so the unfurnished home is the one they will choose.). But I’ve figured out that these two shows also feature couples who have already purchased a home, except they are already living in it. So I try to match the couple with the furniture.
The closing scene that shows the couple at their “new” home always has them outside.
It’s just fun watching how HGTV tries to throw us off from the house that will be chosen.
Also, my daughter sent me a link from HGTV that asked if granite countertops are over. I thought yeah, now that you have everyone converted to granite, you have to find another way to get home owners to spend money.
IMO, I think granite is going to be with us for a while. (Just try to destroy it!) But if and when I do another kitchen, I think I’ll try quartz, just for fun.
@abasket, I keep reading this as Hunter House fans (as I have an electrician here installing 5 ceiling fans, none of them Hunter, but I think that really is a brand).
I am enjoying 'Waterfront House Hunting" on FYI - more upscale homes - same see 3 properties and make a choice concept.
It does crack me up when the young purchasers look at kitchens and bathrooms that look similar to mine or even more updated and lament how outmoded they are and will have to be completely gutted and redone! We are apparently very outdated.
I love all of the HGTV shows. This one sounds good as well! There used to be show where they would show you homes in various cities at the same price point. The price point changed for each show. I don’t remember the name of it, but I really enjoy those types of comparisons.
When we redid our kitchen two and a half years ago, I learned that “quartzite” is God-made and “quartz” is man-made. In other words, quartzite is the real stone, and quartz is real stone with a bunch of other stuff added to it.
It seems to me it should be the opposite, but that’s how it goes.
I love the looks of the recycled glass countertops and will consider it when we redo our kitchen in the next few months. I really haven’t looked at them in depth yet so need to do so. It looks like they are one of the more expensive options so I will have to decide if it is worth it if we were to decide to sell and move to a smaller home.
I watched the show today for the first time. It was pretty interesting. I like the fact that you are told which city they are in. Sometimes I see these shows and the houses for 200k are amazing and other times the ones for 700k are pretty fixer upper-ish and I always wonder about the location. Secretly wondering if I would like one of those more affordable places!
“Property Brothers” rarely indicates the city. I don’t think “Love It Or List It” does too often either. I think the homes are usually somewhere around Toronto. Although I just watched an episode that was in North or South Carolina.
