So for a technology Summer Program how can I say this? I mean I think it will help, but I do not know how to write it specifically so it does not make me look like I am a weirdo</p>
<p>Maybe you could describe it as extensive research into the topic of Network Security/Hacking, proficiency in a lot of the processes, and possibly attempt to convey your knowledge in some way. For the program, does the application only have a slot for extra-curriculars, or are you submitting a resume? </p>

<p>You could say ‘self study’ of the topic, too. I don’t know that I would call it “research” given your description, though. You can’t really make it into too much that it isn’t if all you have done is a lot of reading and little/no hands on work in the area.</p>
