Just curious! I bookmark discussions I am interested in following, but don’t have any other organizational methods. I’ve seen posters recommend old threads and wonder how they were able to come up with the links
Also, when you log onto to CC, do you go straight to Bookmarks? Do you only read certain subforums? Do you start with Latest Posts?
I limit my bookmarks so mostly only go back to them for reference.
Anymore, I am 99% only on the Parent Cafe. I have one still in college, but at this point, things are smooth sailing.
I mostly just do a “Parent Cafe” first page scan of topics I have participated in and/or are interested in checking out. Sometimes if I’ve been away I sneak to page 2.
I generally head for the active and favorite D/E/W thread first.
I use the search function at the top of the page to re-find a thread from the past putting in a couple key words.
I use bookmarks all the time. (Current count is over 2500). Granted most are old threads that don’t get updated, but once in a while one randomly pops up again.
I go straight to my bookmarks. When nothing is new there, I go to latest posts. Occasionally, I’ll go to a specific sub-forum (usually for my kids’ colleges or the Parent Cafe).
I use the search function to find an old thread. I wish there was a way to limit the search to my bookmarks, it would make it even easier to find what I’m looking for. But usually I’ll try to remember something very unique, or something I said and limit the search to me as the one that stated it. (Advanced search has “author”)
I use google to find threads. I never bookmark anything though apparently 6 ancient threads somehow got bookmarked. I just open Parent Cafe, and Parent Forum and see if there are new posts. The thread are bold if there are. Works for me.
I go to the main “talk” page and click on forums that interest me that day, but always check the Parent Forum, Parent Cafe and Class of 2016. I don’t use bookmarks for much of anything. Sometimes I have an idea or question and will use the search function to see if there’s an old thread on that topic, and often find good information.
@ClaremontMom…lol - I like that you answered my question with a link! I haven’t use the Search function much on CC, so I’m glad to know about the Advanced Search option. @sseamom It sometimes seem that I get better results finding an old thread with a Google search.
Lots of bookmarks, tab on chrome that opens to my bookmarks. I’ll zip through them and then check latest posts. No email notifications unless I get a pm or mentioned.
If you don’t understand what that means, it used to annoy me that the admins banned all political discussion, even in the political discussion forum. Now this seems to be the only place where I can ESCAPE from political discussion.
Mine are out of college, so I just hang around here because I like talking with intelligent people. Also, I follow the wedding thread because one of mine is getting married next September.
And like @NJres, I enjoy the opportunity to talk about things other than politics.
I always go first to the Diet and Exercise thread because we have such an awesome sub-community there and I love our sharing and support. It’s something very important in my life. I then peruse the list of Parent Cafe topics and see if anything looks interesting or if I can contribute. I love the intelligence on CC.
@MomofWildChild totally agree about the intelligence on CC! I have learned so much through this community - it’s too bad I’m of the age where I also forget a lot of what I’ve learned as well
I really like getting different perspectives and the generous advice and support that is shared. I mostly stick with Parent Cafe, as my kids have both graduated from college and have not indicated interest in further schooling.
Parent Cafe regular reader, occasional poster. Following the parent support, wedding (last one’s 6/2017), travel, retirement threads; vicarious living through the grandparent thread.
Latest Posts to start. A few bookmarked threads from my kids’ college forums. And I drop into those 2 forums acoule times per week. I miss the ability to bookmark a whole forum, and also that page where we could see by color if a top college had any recent postings in their forum.
You mean there are other forums besides the Parent Cafe I have been here since my kids were in high school; there are both married now! I like many others, come for the help, camaraderie and intelligence. While I might not have a ton to offer on many thread, I have always found replies to my question very helpful; even if I did not always receive positive response.
