How hard is it to self-study AP Calc AB?

If I already have a solid basis in differentiation from honors pre-calc, how hard would it be to self-study calc AB this year? My dad’s a math teacher (8th grade - but has taught calc before in high school) so I would have him as a resource. I would just need a text book and a review book. Any suggestions? My school doesn’t offer AB, only BC, and I got conflicted out of it because of AP music theory. Thanks!

It’s not too bad. Even though you said that your dad would teach you, if for whatever reason, it doesn’t work, Khan Academy or MIT OCW is enough; maybe UC Open Access for the practice problems (no textbook needed). This website is good too: [Pauls Online Math Notes](http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/)

Thanks for the resources man!

^^
Khan Academy can actually be quite confusing for some lessons…

My problem with Calculus hasn’t been the straightforward problems-- It’s always been the ones which require some sort of creativity to solve. Like ones involving logs and natural logs or e.

Yeah, I like that MIT site though, looks pretty solid. Can anyone recommend a review book? I’ve heard PR and Peterson’s are both good. Any preference?

You might consider taking it at EPGY, though it’s a bit expensive. It probably shouldn’t be too difficult given your situation and your good foundation with precalc. I agree…OCW’s pretty good too. I used PR–just don’t use REA or Barron’s.

What’s EPGY? I assume some sort of online class? How much would it cost? Thanks for your recommendations!

I’ve read half of princeton review and it is pretty good.

I’m doing it right now. It’s fairly easy, though not quite as straightforward as some self-studies. I’m using Larson’s Calculus and that is working well when coupled with Khan Academy lessons (Sal is a BEAST at explaining things).

Get the Princeton Review. The Princeton Review is very helpful.

is it possible to self study calc AB WHILE I am taking pre-cal/trig? or is it too hard
