The point is I can go directly to the threads (such as this one, so yes, @jym626 I have bookmarked this one! LOL!) that I am already interested in and taking a part of. (I don’t look in the forums for my bookmarks that would defeat the purpose, I go to “My Bookmarks” so I only see those I’m interested in). I don’t have to weed through a bunch of others I’m not interested in (and already decided as much).
Of course, I do look at “Latest Posts” and specific forums once in a while or I’d never have new threads to follow.
As an aside, it’s interesting when some really old bookmark suddenly appears at the top of my bookmark list because someone has given an update. That just happened yesterday – I had to remember what that thread was about.
I have 1037 since I subscribe to @ClaremontMom’s philosophy. There’s really no downside, and if I lose interest in a very active thread, I just unbookmark it.
Actually, now it’s 1038 because I’m bookmarking this thread.
108 PAGES of them (2156!). But most lay dormant. And if a thread gets closed or stops being interesting (or gets hijacked in an annoying way…), I un-bookmark it.
Notifications are OFF for that, though, I just go to my bookmarks page first thing when I come here.
Which, before the latest site redo, used to also list forums I’d bookmarked, like for specific colleges. Never got that feature back. Sigh.
