How soon will we hear about admission decision?

So I have been sort of on pins and needles for the last few days seeing all the admissions. I don’t discuss this at all with my son, there is no need. He has been accepted to 3 schools so far, all safety schools. Application was sent 10/2. , but apparently transcript not sent until 11/5. Gibson said application was complete about 11/10. Son checked Gibson tonight. I was not home and he sent me a text asking for 60000 a year for 4 years. Read it quickly then laughed, then he texted a screen shot of his acceptance on Gibson. His best friend, who has much higher stats was admitted about 3 weeks ago, so this is a great victory for his self esteem, not to mention that he really wants to go to Tulane. Money will be the issue. But for now we are just happy. Congratulations to all who have been accepted and to those still waiting hang in there. I don’t know if I believe that things happen for a reason, but whatever the outcome as parents we need to adjust and help our kids adjust. Sometimes its eSy and sometimes a little harder, but time helps things get better.

First, congratulations to all those who already have been accepted! Second, I could not agree more with your statement readalotmom! Everything for a reason. Of course also we waited anxiously for decision day. Very thankfully the wait is over as of this morning as he has been accepted. We do not know yet of any merit money. His (ACT) stats are in the high mid 50%, solid ECs and demanding AP course load. I know it is extremely hard to sit and wait, probably much harder for the parents than for the kids, but do not lose hope. It took admission exactly 4 weeks (from receiving all the material) to making the decision.

Congrats Mavitale and others who have recetnly been accepted! I haven’t checked back on these boards in awhile (I think the page count was 43 the last time I was on) but I have been so hoping for good news for M’s son. YAY!!! Now its time to breathe.

deeks2013 -congratulations! I think I’m more nervous about waiting than my daughter at this point as she’s resigned to not getting in. Her application was marked complete on October 26th so it’s been a very long wait for us.
congrats to all the new acceptances yesterday and today. what a relief!!

let me amend my previous comment of it being a long wait. in truth, it really isn’t too long of a wait --there are some schools she won’t be hearing from until late March. I think what has made this particularly hard are all the acceptances being released so sporadically. Naturally those at the tail end are thinking the worst and it almost feels like a slow form of torture not knowing! I’d almost prefer to get the defer notification at this point!

Jaynebe, I think getting deferred would be the worst. I’d rather be rejected because it seems like life is “on hold” and at least we could move on. (Obviously I’d rather keep waiting and have my DD be accepted.) I do agree though, if we hadn’t seen all the sporadic acceptances and we were just waiting until the 15th it wouldn’t be as bad. It was definitely reassuring reading the chat Monday night. A lot of people have the same issue and it seems like it’s kind of random who gets in how quickly, except the students with very high stats seem to hear earlier. ( I like to think of good stats and expressed interests as the “shoe ins”. ) I think I am really starting to lose it because now not only am I checking Gibson regularly, even though I know it’s irrational I get anxious going to get the mail because I am hoping ( even though I know it won’t happen) that somehow they missed her on Gibson and just sent her the letter. Is that crazy or what? That’s ok 10 more days and this will all be over. Congratulations to everyone that has gotten their acceptances and good luck to those still waiting.

I agree with everything you write Oliver17. AND I too find myself nervously approaching the mailbox with the same crazy thought, so you are not alone!
Based on the Monday night chat it is more than likely, should our kids not get accepted outright, that they will be deferred. Maybe that will soften the blow a bit for my daughter? I don’t know.

My child completed the application in early September and we did not get the Congrats until Mid November. Our letter took longer than the average on this board to arrive. It took two weeks. We got merit. There is hope for all. IT AINT OVER UNTIL ITS OVER!

jaynebe and oliver17 - totally agree - it is hearing about all the other acceptances that has made us obsessive about Gibson. I have resigned myself to the fact that, for whatever reason, we are slotted to hear on the 15th. I also thought that maybe we would get something in the mail before seeing a post on Gibson but I am just fooling myself…and yes - in reality - it has not been a long wait compared to when we will hear from other schools - it is just the fact that so many others heard from Tulane already. It is beyond our control…it will be very interesting to see what will happen when all the dust settles and we hear from all schools - unfortunately, this has put a damper on things for me w/Tulane (whether he gets in or not) - after all, I am paying the bill. That might sound harsh but it is how I feel right now…

Bloomy-wish there was a “like” button for your post.

Jaynebe and Bloomy, so…if we are all doing the same crazy thing that makes us normal. Whew, what a relief! LOL

TMI can be bad.

At this time last year, me and my kid were oblivious to Gibson and CC. So when a letter from TU arrived unannounced at some point prior to the 12/15 deadline, it was just a nice surprise.

We didn’t know/care how fast or slow the application got turned around, or how fast or slow the letter came after the electronic acceptance. It was just great to be ahead of the game with an appealing admission and scholarship offer in hand before Christmas!

I agree with Northwesty! TMI!! On the one hand I am so grateful for the insight the posts here have provided, however I am now going crazy trying to figure out why we haven’t heard anything yet, and checking, checking, checking…sigh…

Too bad that the number of times you check Gibson doesn’t constitute “demonstrated interest”!!!

Aquamom–ha ha…yep, we’d ALL be a shoe-in if that were the case.

Northwesty–Thanks for helping keep it in perspective.

i hate to copy someone else’s post but kelijake is right LOL to Aquamom’s post. I LITERALLY laughed out loud when I read Aquamom’s post and laughter is a great stress reliever,so thanks for that!

Glad I could make you laugh! This is our third time through the admissions process and maybe the most stressful. My other 2 applied ED to schools that released all of their decisions on the same day. I think that was a better system - knowing that once their applications were in, there was no point stressing until that date. At this point, I am pretty sure my computer could find Gibson and log in all by itself!!!

Aquamom- Lots of folks are attached to the Gibson name!

Accepted as of tonight!!! I’m so happy! Hang in there everybody! I applied before the deadline and I just found out.

Did anyone participate in the “chat” and if so was the problems with Gibson addressed?
