PawsL1 - That happens to a few people every year, they meant to check off EA or SCEA and just made a mistake. I cannot tell you exactly where that box was on the app, but I know it is there. I honestly do not know when they will start informing RD applicants, but I would imagine you are right about it being after Jan 15. Did you write to your admissions officer and inform them that you intended to apply EA? Maybe you still should, and just say that while you know it is too late to get a decision as part of the EA cycle, if you got an affirmative decision you would be immediately accepting it. Only if that is true, of course. If not, then other than anxiety it really doesn’t make much difference if you get the decision now or a few months from now.

FC-Thanks for your opinion. We did email admission counselor and indicated the mistake so I guess that we are back in the waiting game. Hopefully, just till end of January or early Feb.! Not fun!

wordy…i am so sorry and so surprised! my advice to you would be to really evaluate if TU is still high on your list and then if so, i would take fallen’s advice and make the visit and meet with the adcom. at the very least, you can email.

To those who PMed me, sorry I don’t have enough posts yet to reply (I guess pming is a privilege to be earned on CC)
But I really appreciate the support and validation.

Really don’t want to dominate the forum, but let me respond to fallenchemist - because there may be others in our shoes.

My daughter has taken 5 APs (all but the top 3-6 students at our school take APs senior year only), top 3% of class, and I think she has one non-A (in other words one B) on her high school transcript. She has multiple ECs (with 4 years in the same ECs), leadership roles, some state wide academic awards, some national athletic competitions, lots of volunteer experience and she spends summers working (to save money for college). Definitely no suspensions or anything close - although ironically someone she knows who did get accepted this round was suspended - she is known at her school for being bright/intellectually passionate, but more so for being a humble, nice kid.

Who knows what they were looking for? She definitely tried to express interest, although not in an over the top way, maybe what she did wasn’t enough. Our visit is already scheduled and maybe she will get in regular decision. Our fear is that at that point - so late in the game - she will not be offered merit, but if that is the case, it wasn’t meant to be.

Anyhow definitely don’t want to take the glow away from justme (and anyone else with happier news). Very happy for those kids who were accepted. It is an accomplishment to be proud of.

You are not dominating the forum at all. That’s what it is here for, to discuss everything from the trivial to the important, and this is important. We all hate to see something like this that makes no sense, at least to us. Frankly, in all the time I have been doing this I cannot remember a case quite like it. I am seeing so many high stat kids on the other thread saying they are deferred, but they also say to a person that they showed no interest.

I am glad you are still going to make the visit. I really hope your daughter will sit down with the admissions counselor assigned to her and not be shy about pointing out her high stats AND her demonstrated interest, and inquire as to what kept her from being accepted EA. I think you have a few dozen on here (at least) that really want to know as well, but that’s not important compared to her getting the outcome it seems she deserves.

Unfortunately I came home to a deferral letter today. My Gibson still says that my application is pending review. I’m pretty upset because Tulane is my absolute #1 school and I showed a lot of interest. The only thing really holding me back was my test scores
1740 and 25. I’m really a bad test taker and I took the SAT and ACT both 3 times each. Good luck to everyone else and hopefully ill get in regular decision! Also, would anyone know if I have a chance at Elon EA?

Sorry to go off topic a little but has anyone gotten the “Your decision is pending review. We will try to get you a decision soon, but you will receive an update on your admission status by December 15th at the latest.” message and gotten accepted? I have a theory that this message is only for those deferred and does not change on Gibson even after a letter is received in the mail.

Sorry to hear about the deferrals - I decided that there is no rhyme or reason when it comes to college admissions in general and you can go crazy trying to figure it out. Admissions have their quotas and as they start to fill those spots they set their sights on something else. I am convinced that if you take the same application and just change the name (hypothetical of course) acceptance would vary depending on the day, boy/girl, ethnic background, origin, etc. A different day would yield a different result. I really believe that and that it is OUT OF YOUR CONTROL to a large extent.

Good luck to those still waiting - deferral people hang in there - there is still hope!!! Maybe it will be a better day the next time your app is read!!

mosicles i started a thread on that. there is one person who says they have. i too think it means something but why would they even update your status to that at all?

I have a countdown on my phone with the days, hours, minutes, seconds and yes, milliseconds until the 15th. Because it is within one of those days, hours, minutes or millisecond I will receive some kind of decision.

Hey everyone! I’m new to CC but I saw on Gibson that I got accepted yesterday! I applied all the way back in the middle of October. I have a 3.16 weighted gpa and 2120 SAT score.

jster what message was on your gibson before getting accepted

Perhaps for the deferrals they keep your status as it is because you will get a RD decision later. I’m not sure but I’m losing hope and now I am even more scared to look in my mailbox!!

Just found out that I was accepted through Gibson yesterday! Still waiting on the letter, and crossing my fingers about merit money :)

Dang Jster2000 looks like we’re similar low GPA and good tests. Did you get any merit$$? And how many AP’s did you have?

I dont’ know if I got any merit aid or not, I hope so! but I’ve taken 5 APs, and I’ve also taken 4 Dual-Enrollement class at VCU. The high school I go to is one of the top-20 in the country, so that probably help too.

Mosicles, my status was updated to that one yesterday – haven’t gotten a letter of any sort, yet.

elikresses- Hopefully we all hear acceptances!!

OK Cheer007…another day of obsessing over Gibson has begun…! The status still reads "Your application is complete. The Committee on Admission is working to render your decision as quickly as possible… " ugh

good luck everyone!
