pasadenamom, haha sorry I was just seeing the messages with people having the “pending” message. thanks for answering!

Until there is a letter at my door I will not believe I am anything less than accepted. Why is everyone being pessimistic? There are three days left to be accepted, hope and pray and wish for the best and put out good karma

no problem mich…it’s a long thread!! good luck!

FC - thanks for the support - I am really taken aback by the scholarship considering how nervous I was about my son even getting in! The wait was the killer and made me doubtful - but I am a believer now!!

We are not from PA (we are from NJ)- so this now brings Tulane in the same ball park as PSU’s out-of state-tuition. My son will tell you that there is nothing like “being wanted” - I cannot disagree. I am pretty confident that this will clinch things for Tulane (despite the fact that he still has 8 more schools to hear from!).

Well, I know you were asking on the PSU thread about Tulane business vs. PSU. Tulane’s business school is extremely dynamic. Some truly world-class programs. I know that phrase gets tossed around a lot, but Jim Cramer and his CNBC show broadcast from Tulane last year and he highlighted a few of the really fantastic things going on at Tulane, like the Burkenroad Reports, the energy trading desk, etc.

Not that it matters at this point, but what area of business school is he thinking of focusing on?

Bloomy, I am so happy for you, I could cry! Such great news and worth the wait!

Getmein12, I like your attitude. Good luck to everyone still waiting! Not much longer.

Bloomy, congrats. We are hoping for something. before Gotmein’s message, I was thinking my DD wouldn’t get any merit. I am jumping on the bandwagon. My daughter is going to get merit until I see otherwise!

Congrats to the newly accepted and welcome to our obsessive group.

Bloomy now that Penn State and Tulane will be comparable in price, which do you think he will choose? These are two very different schools. I have to say from my own experience that I think that your DS will find a much higher caliber of student at Tulane. I am also from NJ and Penn State is super popular around here. My nephew is a sophomore, my niece is a freshman and two of my best friends have kids there. Not one of these kids could have even gotten accepted to Tulane. I know that Penn State ranks higher in the UNWR ranking, but why is a mystery to me. That being said, every kid I know that goes there absolutely loves it. Just my two cents…

Bloomy—a huge congrats on the $$$

To clarify my earlier post, this is exactly the message my DS had online before it changed to “Congratulations!” (same as mich):

“Your application is complete. The Committee on Admission is working to render your decision as quickly as possible. If you have questions regarding your status, please call the Undergraduate Admission Office at 800-873-WAVE (9283).”

Thanks everyone - cc has been a great place to vent, hope and share!!

FC - my son will go either finance or accounting…big into math and number crunching.

Well, just to keep pitching for Tulane then, Finance has long been considered one of their top areas, with even the Financial Times of London recognizing them as a top 10 program a few years ago. And the new Dean of the business school is considered one of the leading academics in accounting, came from University of Illinois. When I was in New Orleans in August one of the staff people in Freeman School told me that most of the new profs being hired were in accounting and that there were some strong relationships being forged with China with regards to accounting programs. The statement that was made to me went something along the lines of there wasn’t a prayer there would be enough trained accountants to satisfy the needs of China (both western companies there and China owned companies) for the foreseeable future.

I vote for Tulane, lol. Oh, and in past threads there are links to a lot of those programs and references I mentions. If you want them but cannot find them, let me know and I will repost them.

big congrats Bloomy and roll NJ Green Waves!!!

BLOOMY, BLOOMY, BLOOMY–I TOLD YOU SO!!! (I just say it better than FC!). Congratulations!

O.k. so we need some help here. My son applied EA on October 25th and his file was marked complete on November 9th. He emailed his admissions counselor several times and never heard back from her. Today, he received an email from her apologizing for not contacting him sooner. She said she had received his first quarter grades but that his application was marked REGULAR DECISION and that he needs to send his first semester grades. He emailed back that his application was clearly marked Non Binding Early Action. He has a printed copy. Is there anything else he can do to make sure he gets considered now?

Oh Aquamom. I am so sorry to hear that. Hopefully FC or someone will be able to offer you some helpful advice, as I cannot. I am sorry for this confusion! You really don’t need the added stress.

Hey Bloomy! Congrats! Go Green Wave! I agree with almost everyone here that Tulane is a much better choice than the public universities in the Northeast (PSU, Rutgers, SUNY, etc.) With the 20k scholarship Tulane is basically the same price, but I believe a higher quality education.

Aquamom5 - I believe someone else had this problem. Perhaps they can tell you what they did? Sorry to hear that!!!
perhaps the guidance counselor marked the wrong form?

Aquamom-How fortuitous your son has a printed copy! If your son is serious about Tulane, I would call her tomorrow and not give up until you speak to her. This is the time to persevere.

Just send an e-mail to his admissions counselor, copy Faye on it (the head of admissions) with a scanned image of his page (or a picture) and just say you understand how these things can happen, but since he did apply by the EA deadline and his application was marked EA, you are sure they understand that he was hoping for a decision by the 15th. Then after a day, if you have not heard back by e-mail, call on Friday.

The important thing is to stay calm and polite, but businesslike. It sounds like he did everything right, so there is no reason they shouldn’t give him a decision as promised. But if they really have a good reason it is RD (I cannot imagine but let’s plan for all contingencies) then better to accept that and let the process work itself through. But let’s see what they say when you show them the evidence.

Aquamom - I would have my son call (as much as he would hate the idea) - or his guidance counselor. I get the sense that they want nothing to do w/parents. Let your son self-advocate - I think that will go further! He can even call from his guidance counselor’s office, put the call on speaker and get some coaching from him/her.

FC - very encouraged to hear about the business program - any links you can provide would be great. I looked on the Tulane web site - Freeman - undergraduate majors + minors and the info was very limited. I would love to read up on what they offer…

Hugoblack - thanks for your input…

Here you go Bloomy. This should take you right to post #5 that has the info. Some of the links might not be valid any longer.

Since this post 2.5 years ago several programs have been added, of which at least a couple focus heavily on doing business internationally in a very culturally integrated manner.
