Congrats Aqua and others who got good news today! Bandmom I am sure you are getting some great advice from FC via PM on how to proceed: this forum is a legit place for support. Good luck and I truly hope it works out for him in RD.

Still have the pending status but have not gotten anything in the mail…

I too have the pending status from gibson, but have not received anything in the mail

Bandmom123- where did they ask you to put down other schools you were applying to?

I do remember seeing that in the past, but it absolutely does not affect your chances for admission as long as you show genuine interest in Tulane. All admissions offices like to get a feel for which schools they compete against the most.

I do not remember them asking me what other colleges I will apply to… Was that at an on campus meeting perhaps? Definitely not an application question.

I vaguely remember it. Mainly because of the green border, and at the time I wasn’t sure whether or not I was applying to Emory main campus or not, so I wasn’t sure about putting it.

Anyway, does anyone have any idea when the pending statuses will be change, tomorrow?

No idea on that last question, Eli.

Awww.

I have a feeling they’re going to slap a deferral on all of us with a pending status.

So as I expected, I got deferred. My pending message still hasn’t changed.

Bandmom, your son is obviously “accept” material. I think at this point it is probably just coming down to numbers. Just like the Ivy schools (or any others with very high number of apps), there are many great, qualified applicants, but only so many spots. I have a feeling it might have just come down to timing and numbers. He clearly deserves to be admitted, but even if he isn’t, you can be sure he will have many great options. It really does sting to get that slap in the face (been there). But tell him to shake it off and have confidence in the hard work he has done, because it WILL pay off.

Bandmom-Your story is just mystifying.

I’m really not sure how much demonstrated interest is required, other than sending in the app early and writing the essay. My D did virtually nothing else to show interest (didn’t discover Tulane until after they came to her HS, never visited). Her essay showed that she was a serious student and was aware of specific opportunities at Tulane, but she spent maybe 20 minutes on it. I really think there is some randomness here, just due to the sheer number of apps.

To nova2nola: In fact, my son spend 4-6 weeks thinking about what to do and drafting the Deans Scholarship project! He went to campus, toured it, met the advisor, applied early, and applied for the scholarship! Crazy!! Very Random here! He exceeds all of their requirements in every department! Not much else you can do. He applied before others that have been accepted already so it wasn’t a fact of they met the limit for early acceptance and his came in later. Yes, he did the optional essay too! And yes, I do think that they had an unprecedented number of applications this year and new staff and maybe just couldn’t handle the volume.

Mosicles, how did you know that you got deferred if your status hasn’t changed?

Timing update - My son applied Nov. 14 and his acceptance was posted on Gibson on Monday, Dec. 10. He had submitted an arts supplement (music) so I don’t know if that played any part in the timing. Today (Dec. 14) he received his letter with honors program and merit scholarship. The letter was dated Dec. 10 (same as Gibson posting) and we are in California, so it was a quick turnaround on receiving the letter.
Good luck and relaxing thoughts are sent to all who are still waiting to hear.

Congrats Mdndad - My daughter just completed her First Semester at Tulane. It looks like she will be double majoring - the second major being vocal performance. Is your son an instrumentalist or vocalist?

Trips - He is an instrumentalist (sax) and currently wants to include music (jazz studies) in a double major. Many other schools yet to hear from in RD and no definite favorite, but I think Tulane is definitely in his top group.

tiffmcglinch- I received a letter in the mail today that stated my deferral. I recently checked my gibson online and it hasn’t changed from the pending message to deferred or anything.

It’s been a long, drawn out, and tedious road with Gibson, and I was deferred.
I showed little interest, but I did write the optional Tulane essay.
It’s disappointing that my first college decision was a deferral, but everything happens for a reason.
