How soon will we hear about admission decision?

Well, I am not FC of course, :), but I can answer your question Wildcat. You will have the opportunity to sign up for classes at orientation. You will receive instructions for signing up for orientation after you have officially committed and paid your deposit. There are several sessions. The only students in the freshman class currently registered are those who attended the Honors Weekends this spring.

I was just confused as to how some classes, including first year only TIDES courses, were already starting to be filled up. But you said Honors kids may have registered so that makes sense.

So, when is this “orientation?” Is it the same as move in day?

Also, on orientation, should I come with the list of classes I plan to enroll in then? Thanks!

It is not the same as Move-in. Tulane holds 8 (usually) orientation sessions in June, where you sit with an advisor and register for classes, attend various information sessions (some joint with parents should they choose to attend as well, and some separate) and an overnight in a dorm. It was Butler when my D went, but I don’t know if it always is. You should definitely plan to attend, it is a good opportunity to meet some future classmates and possibly a roommate. Coming in with a proposed schedule is always useful.

Don’t be misled by the way Tulane lists the open seats. They sequester (hey, we get to use that now famous word!) seats so that those registering later in the orientation process are not at a disadvantage to those that attend earlier ones.

Ok but here’s the thing: what if somebody cannot AFFORD to go down to NOLA for Orientation, then back home, and then back again when schools starts?

Like, that’s a lot of traveling for this lower-middle class guy - is there any form of airplane ticket discounts or anything at least? O_O

If you can fly Southwest and plan it now, there are some really cheap fares. In fact, you have the huge advantage of being from Maryland, and BWI is a Southwest hub. So for example, I just did a search on traveling in June and there are fares as low as $138 each way. You could probably work through this site to find a ride from the airport with someone, and of course everything else is covered. I think it would be worth the investment.

But if that doesn’t work out, then you register in early July. Tulane will send you instructions on how to do that, and if you need to speak with an advisor you can do it by e-mail and phone beforehand. You would probably be at a slight disadvantage then in terms of available seats in classes, but honestly no one has ever said they couldn’t get the courses they wanted, even then. Sometimes they end up settling for a section that is at a less favorable time. Of course, the more lower level classes you place out of via AP credits or whatever, the less of an issue this becomes.

Do most people attend Orientation with or without a parent?

I’m thinking of going down to Tulane for Orientation without my father to save money. Then, when it comes to move-in time, we’ll drive down there like we originally intended, and he can see the school then. Besides, I’ll need somebody to help me move in, not attend an Orientation, necessarily… Thoughts?

It’s a mix of student-only and student/parent(s). Not unusual at all for students to attend by themselves. And definitely parents are needed more at move-in, especially with a car! They also repeat a lot of the sessions for parents at move-in that were done at Orientation. Keeps them out of your hair.

If you can’t go, you can still schedule your classes before the start of the semester. I’ve already talked to one of the orientation people as my D will be out of the country until the middle of July and can’t go to orientation. What they said was that later this month she will receive a letter from academic advising with her advisor’s name. She should call the advisor and arrange a time to talk to him/her to schedule classes but it will probably be sometime in July after the orientation sessions are done. There will also be a webinar in July that covers the orientation materials for students and parents that couldn’t make it that you can sign up for.

I just got an email saying that I got in to Tulane off of the waitlist!!! I am so excited!!! Tulane here I come!

High-five!

That is excellent courtzerangue (what does that name mean, btw?). I know from your other posts you were really hoping for Tulane and were a little bummed when you got waitlisted. Just out of (more) curiosity, where would you have gone if the Tulane offer had not come through?

So happy for all the (former) waitlisters!!!

Thanks guys! @fallenchemist: My name is Courtney so my username is a shortened version of my name along with my last name! I can see how it looks like a really weird username when you don’t know me! I was going to go to the University of Louisiana if Tulane hadn’t come through.

Apparently, Courtney and I are especially fabulous, because I haven’t heard of anyone else getting called off of this wait-list… not yet anyway…

WildcatKY my D and I will be at orientation June 4-5. If you sign up for that one you can try to coordinate flights with us and we’ll take you to Tulane and back via cab. Just PM me. We are flying Southwest out of Philly and got tickets for under 100 each way! So 198 round trip x 2. Very nice.

Question though: will they send me info about orientations in the mail? I was just accepted oof of the waitlist on May 1st and am kind of in a “what do I do?” state right now…

Thanks!

You should just call admissions tomorrow and ask. You should get an email that takes you to a link that allows you to enroll and pay your deposit. Once you do that, you will get an email with a email login name and a password, after one or two business days you will be able to use that login and password to get into gibson (the same site you used to check app status) and you can get to the registration/orientation link and sign up for orientation. At least that’s how it worked for my D. Not sure if its the same timing and process for you. So…just call as soon as you can tomorrow. Hope this helps and don’t fret too much. Congratulations by the way!

Wildcat - they will send info, but I wouldn’t wait. Go to [Tulane University - index](http://tulane.edu/studentaffairs/orientation/summer/index.cfm) and get signed up, and make those reservations now before the fares increase.

Mofthree - really nice offer. I still think this is the best group on CC!

Do I need to send Tulane my high school final transcript?

and on that note, if we do, do we just have it sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as we did before? my school requires me to request transcripts a bit in advance of the end of the school year the first week of June (so i’d have to have a request within the next week or two), and i don’t know if i should just request it be sent just to be safe.
