I have often wondered this myself. I think some people just have an exaggerated sense of how important their opinions are. If they are too busy to read the thread, then they should give everyone else a break and refrain from posting.
While I wanted to ‘like’ this hundreds of times (because I do get frustrated when people do this sometimes, particularly when the comment they’re making or question they’re asking was answered three posts before theirs), there are often too many threads that move too fast. For instance, in the Diet, Wellness, etc., thread, I’ve tried a few times to participate, but I can’t keep up with all the posts, so very few weeks, I’ll read the last 4-5 pages, just to see what they’re talking about, but I won’t chime in because I realize what I might have to say, well… the conversation is long past that point because it moved so fast.
Sometimes I might have 2-3 days where my computer time is limited (traveling, etc.) and I can’t keep up with a thread, but I might have a question or comment, and know realistically, I can’t go back to the beginning to read every single post.
And I’m absolutely fine with other members not reading my posts if I start with, “I haven’t read the posts…”
But usually I will try to read the last dozen or two posts before mine if it’s a fast-moving thread before I post.
Make sense?
I don’t do it a lot, but I have. Usually it’s on a thread I started reading, left for a couple of days and now see that it’s on some crazy tangent and I don’t really want to go back pages and pages and read a lot of unrelated posts. So, on the rare occasions I have done that, it’s a way to address the original topic and not address the tangential stuff.
There are some threads which are just too long, go on too many tangents, and you just want to respond to the OP. This is actually one of the few things I have no problems with. If I don’t care to respond, I just ignore that post
@teriwtt, Yes makes sense. I don’t expect somebody to read every post in the diet thread. How many days would that take?
But if a person hasn’t taken the time to read anything…please mention this in your post so we can skip your post.
I don’t know why there are duplicate posts. I can’t edit right now. More pet peeves but I don’t want to stray from this topic.
Posts 6-8 should be skipped.
What teriwitt, Youdon’tsay and Romani said.
Op,
I haven’t read the intervening posts. And I often start my posts with this sentence.
Many of the intervening posts are so tangential to the question that was originally asked.
I’m answering the original poster’s question, which is the reason that they are posting in the first place.
Others do not or should not read my post, because my answer is specifically to the op.
Sometimes I do get sucked into the whole thread and read all of the posts. When I do, it is quite fun, however, there are so many other things that I need to get done in my day, like doing surgery on people’s faces, that I really need to try to limit my time websurfing.
All other readers…please do not bother to read this post. This response is to @dstark only.
Oh, I do! And please feel free!
Boo. I thought this was going to be a thread where we complete the line “I haven’t read the prior posts BUT…follow your dreams the money will follow!!”
What cracks me up is when not only have people not read any posts, they’ve also not even read the originating post. And make a comment that has nothing to do with the thread.
A lot of times the original question has been answered and the thread has evolved, with the OP’s support and participation, and the person who comes in late without at least reading some of the thread doesn’t know that they are addressing a moot point or advancing a point of view which has already been debated or stated many times already. I think it’s best to at least read the last page or two before commenting.
That said, I’ve occasionally been guilty of this offense in times when I have only a few minutes to post before rushing off to work or if I’ve been gone all day and don’t even remotely have enough time to get totally caught up. But it seems there are some posters who never read the thread and are always the one to chime in with the “I haven’t read any of the thread, but…”
I don’t think I have posted to this thread yet, but if I have, I probably said that it’s too much trouble to read all the posts of every thread before posting.

It would be rare to read most/all of the posts in a thread that has many pages.
I do that. It would typically mean the poster did not read every post in the thread, not that they didn’t read the opening post. They’d probably just be responding to the opening post, which they did read.
I haven’t read the posts in the thread but…
I like broccoli.
You all crack me up. Thx. I’m annoyed when the Johnny Come Lately suggests the OP do something he clearly said in the first post that he already did. Nah, they don’t always read the first post.
Sometimes I just like to write to see myself write.
Other times I talk just to hear myself talk.
I haven’t read the posts in the thread, but…
I totally support you, Op!! {{Hugs}}
