I’m looking for feedback on my college list, admissions chances, and suggestions for schools that fit my academic profile, interests, and financial needs as an international student

How was your boarding school chosen ?

Needs significant aid. Hasn’t responded as to what parents can contribute. Probably doesn’t have the stats to come anywhere near meeting requirements for the few schools that are need-blind for int’l students.

I agree that these schools have long harsh winters, and there may be few other Egyptian, or even Arab students there. But the combination of B+ grades (no context given for where that places him in relationship to others in their school), a very average SAT score, being int’l, and family unable to contribute much to the cost of attendance, leaves him with few options. If the counselor has recommended the schools on his list, either there’s info that we don’t have, or the counselor doesn’t seem to have a clear understanding of the unfortunate reality of the student’s situation. That is why I suggested some schools that MIGHT work for the student, given their stats and constraints. It is very likely that the student would prefer to remain in the US for college, rather than return to Egypt for college, where their options would likely be limited to private colleges, such as AUC, which costs about 35K/yr - a pricetag that is way out of reach for most Egyptians.

They’re in a very difficult situation. Recognizing that early on may help them to plan realistically, and make a possible option for going to college in the US. Pretending that somehow it will all work out, and applying to schools that, even if they take him, won’t offer him the fin aid that he needs to enroll, could end with his having to go back home without any college plans set up for starting next year.
