My fashionable SIL is short, and gave some hand-me-downs to my short-ish daughter. From the pile she didn’t want, I tried on several Everlane pants that somehow work on my much taller body (more of an ankle-length fit) - they have been my go-to bottoms for late summer and fall. I like the thick but stretchy denim they use.
I ordered from Urban CoCo on Amazon. They list the measurements of their clothes and seem to be accurate in their descriptions. Decent quality. Lots of separates.
Madewell is an on-line company that many seem to like for tall sizes.
For Athleisure (which for better or worse is what I wear a lot of, given I play pickleball 3-4 mornings a week), I get most of my stuff from Lulu Lemon (mostly pants - they have various lengths) and Athleta (mostly tops). I like Vuori, but agree with the person above who said tops/jackets tend to be short. A friend said they do have some tops that are longer. My DIL got some things from Alo Yoga recently and she loves them.
I am retired now. When I think about where I’ve purchased regular clothes from recently, I’d say Nordstrom and J Jill. I also have some things, mostly inexpensive cotton shirts (a little nicer than normal tees) from Talbots. I am 5’8” or so, but my legs are short for my body.
I have a pair of vuori joggers. I agree that the fabric is very soft.
They do have a long length, the inseam is 27.5”. I have a regular length pair that are good for me as a short person so I wanted to see if a long was offered.
If you are ok with a 27.5 inseam joggers than they could be a good option.
I was going to suggest Vuori but I see several posters beat me to it. I have both knit pants and several styles out of a stretch performance fabric. REI also sells Vuori. Agree with several of you that their tops aren’t long enough.
I need clothes and I’m going to look into several of the brands suggested.
I am the MOST comfortable in a REI store to shop and to try on clothes. I have been to ones all over the country. They are causal, no commission, no fluff, etc.
If there is one near you they can carry PrAna (favorite), Vuori, Kuhl, Patagonia, Arc’teryx (favorite), Athleta, Fjallraven (favorite). These vary from casual to dressy casual.
Abercrombie.com clothes come in tall. Shipping is fast and easy. Quality seems to have massively improved recently. I’ve found nice dresses, and pants (both athleisure and jeans/trousers). Definitely targeted to long legged shoppers.
You all are amazing. I knew I would get some good ideas but Wow! This list will keep me busy this fall and winter!
I’ll respond more later. Driving to my dentist in Vancouver BC this morning. Any British Columbians here that want to recommend brick and mortar stores there?
Either way, please keep the ideas coming. I especially love the links to items you love!
I’m wearing a pair of American Eagle jeans today in 10 X-Long and feeling fabulous in them lol. I don’t normally need extra-long but since they are skinnyish I like that they bunch a little. I like a 33-34 inseam. My jeans are an assortment of Old Navy, Kohls, and whatever I find thrifting- I have some Eddie Bauer and DKNY I like.
My latest online haul was some dresses and tops from Bloomchic. I know it comes directly from China, but I am happy with it all.
She might be talking about the joggers. That silhouette runs shorter (even in the tall lengths) because it’s not meant to be full length. They tend to sit somewhere lower calf/several inches above the ankle.
That was my point. Vuori runs a length that is meant to be shorter. If that’s how you like them, great. But be warned that the long length is 27.5”
I am quite particular on the length of my pants.
I’m short, 5’1”. Talbots cropped pants are 22” in the petite, I prefer 24”. I like 29” on a full length pants. I don’t buy many pants from Talbots. Spanx makes some great pants but I have to be very careful looking at the length because I’m not thrilled with some of it.
That’s what fashion is, knowing what you like and finding it in exactly the way you want.
1000x this. My two daughters are both petite young women but wear completely different brands because their bodies are so different. My 5’ athletic build daughter (more muscular legs, but no hips) wears Paige jeans. My 5’ 2" curvy hipped, skinny legged daughter wears AG jeans.
Jjill also carries tall sizes. Their clothes tend to run big, but the reviews will often guide me to the right fit (I wear reg or petite depending on whether it’s top or bottom).
Wow. I just looked up the Paige jeans because I need some jeans and you kind of described my body type. They look very nice but I definitely must be in a different tax bracket because there is no way I could spend that kind of money on jeans.
