I remember when...Fashion!

Men’s:
Leisure Suits (Mint, Peach, and Lavender just some of the colors)
Roland Shirts (fishymom remembers Nik Nik shirts- she’s OLD like me!)
Madras Shirts
Ruffled Tuxedo Shirts
Jordache and Brittania Jeans
Platform Shoes
Pukka Shells
Belly Warmer, Ernst, and Countess Mara Brand Ties

From the early 70’s: cut-off levi’s cut really short, ditto’s-I had forgotten those also, 1-piece cotton jumpsuit for gym class-HIDEOUS!, really short a-line skirts with patterned knee socks. We couldn’t wear pants to high school until my Jr. year and then they had to be “girls” Levis- they would call our Mom’s if we wore “boys” Levis. When we went to Disneyland for the graduation trip, we either had to wear a dress with nylons and dress shoes, or a matching pantsuit with dress shoes. If the jacket and pants were two separate fabrics we could not get on the bus. My year was the 1st year Disneyland allowed pants on girls. We couldn’t figure that out as climbing onto a ride in those really short dresses showed pretty much everything!

“Roland Shirts (fishymom remembers Nik Nik shirts- she’s OLD like me!)”

Hey, I resemble that remark!

it’s a private blog, so I’m not sure I can post the link here - but google 1977 jc penneys catalog and click on the one that says 15 minute lunch. It’s hysterical. I had forgotten how cool chest hair was back then!

culottes…we weren’t allowed to wear pants, but we were allowed to wear culottes. Boy were THEY ugly.

Honestly, I look at picture of myself from then and I want to barf. Clothes, hair, glasses…all UGLY.

The middle dress from this pattern was my junior prom dress…white and blue eyelet.

I think it was actually pretty because I was as slim as the drawing on the pattern.

Pooka (sp?) Shell necklaces
Famolare shoes
Denim Overalls—I was never allowed to have them or wear them because my mom was born in 1933 and was a very poor farm girl and she wore them—to many bad associations for her -so when I finally got to buy my own in 1978 I though I was so cute - what the attraction was I really have no idea.

I remember in junior high that you had to have a big comb sticking out of your back pocket, and you had to have a giant stick of Bonnie Bell Lip Smackers.

And yes, red tab Levi’s where, rumor had it, if you collected 100 tabs they would give you a free pair. Which of course, lead to ripping off the tabs from other kids’ jeans. And you HAD to have the leather label which showed off the waist and length of your jeans.

The Bonne Bell Lip Smackers reminded me of this, Mary Quant Make-up Crayons. Now that was a look!!!

When I look at my photos from HS and everyone else’s, the boys/men are wearing polyester three piece PLAID suits. They look like they’re from the first scene of the Music Man. Do you think plaid suits will ever make a return?

^^^Goodness gracious, I hope not!!!

Ladybug and Villager shirts.
Pucci Dresses
Bass Weejuns
Granny glasses (tinted)

halter tops
tube tops
painter’s pants
smock tops
bodysuits
bikini underwear
Dr. Scholl’s sandals
shag haircuts
the Farah Fawcett haircut…everyone had “wings”

OMG, yes!! Mine was blue (name embroidered above the pocket) and we had to wear white socks with white tennis shoes.

And yes I remember culottes ……… they even looked ugly on skinny girls with no hips.

OK, how many of you had jackets with huge shoulder pads???

Member’s Only Jackets…What was I thinking?

H still has a brown leather one in the closet and he still thinks it’s cool. I like him too much to let him wear it.

I just googled and found what is probably a picture of the exact jacket that we still have. But it is on a rather profane gay site and I’d probably get in trouble for posting the link.

That could be a whole separate sub-category: Clothes that were ugly on every body type, no matter how young or pretty you were.

“H still has a brown leather one in the closet and he still thinks it’s cool. I like him too much to let him wear it.”

This is what “boy’s” weekends are all about…purging. Then spend the evening practicing the phrase “I have no idea where that jacket is. When is the last time you wore it?”

Fringe jacket. Yes, drive me in the freezing sleet, out to where G** lost His shoes. Thanks, Mom.

Missypie, that’s the pattern for the bridesmaid’s dresses from my wedding! I’m sure because I just saw it last month in my mother’s sewing room. She saved it all these years but not the pattern for the halter maxi-dresses that are back in style now, which is what I was searching for.
They were lavender floral. Sheer voile with a solid lavender lining everywhere but the sleeves. The men all dressed in brown velvet - now THAT was a mistake!
