<p>I was accepted to Berkeley as an EECS. However, somethings in my personal life have caused me to reconsider my decision to go to Cal. About a week ago, my girlfriend told me she was pregnant. She now wants me to wait another year to transfer and apply to my local CSU. I don’t want to sound paranoid, but I think she either did this on purpose, or she is lying to me. She really wanted me to stay, but my dream has always to go to Cal. I told her this and she said it would be selfish of me to go to Cal because I would be leaving her with all the responsibility of caring for our child. To be honest, I actually wanted her to get an abortion, but I don’t know how to say this. </p>
<p>GO TO BERKELEY. You will not have the same opportunities, you will resent that she made you go to a state college forever. She can move to Berkeley. </p>
<p>Who the hell even knows if she is pregnant. Just tell her you’re going to Berkeley and will be better able to provide for her that way. DO NOT BACK DOWN. I’m a mom telling you this…</p>
<p>Man, you’re in a very difficult situation. But for the record though, many CSUs take spring admits so you might not have to wait another year if it does come down to you going to a CSU. </p>
<p>I think before you decide anything, verify that she’s actually pregnant (since you say you have doubts).</p>
<p>Where do you live currently - how far from Cal is it? Assuming she is in fact pregnant, does she have family support - emotional, childcare, financial etc? Does she have a job? Is she in school? </p>

If she doesn’t want to do that either and wants you to sacrifice the opportunity of a lifetime, then I’m going to have to say that you should probably go to Berkeley anyway. Take care of the kid any way you can, of course, but don’t let a child stop you from going to your dream school. Seriously.</p>

<p>Dude, go to Berkeley! You’ll always regret giving that up for a low-tier CSU. You’ve obviously worked hard to get into EECS don’t let anything stop you from pursuing it. </p>

<p>I think you should go, BUT if she is pregnant, you need to figure out how to be a good dad long distance. Whether or not you decide to pursue a relationship with your GF should have no bearing on you being a good father.</p>
<p>What about UCLA? Did you get in? I would contact the UC admissions office and tell them about your circumstance. Ask them if you could, some way, get into UCLA. I mean, you’ve got to have great stats to have gotten into Berkeley. Maybe they can do an exception?!</p>
