Imessage problem

Here is the problem-
My MIL texts me from her Iphone. The message comes to me on my Iphone through I Message. I reply back but the message doesn’t go back to her IPhone but to the IPad of my FIL.
Troubleshoting ideas anyone?

Can you have them check the setting for message send and receive. This happened to my old boss when he did an update. He and his wife would get the replies sent to him.

I can think of a few reasons.

  1. Check the contact card for your inlaws. If there's one card for both, that can get confusing. Try setting up one for your MIL with her phone number. Select that one time and it will stick.
  2. Make sure your MIL is actually registered for iMessage and isn't just sending you regular texts. If you type "how to register for imessage" into Google, you see instructions.

Thanks for the suggestions. I first tried deleting her contacts and reentering them. Still same issue. We ended up driving up to see them for the afternoon. My H looked at her settings and he changed some settings and we are now good.

Yeah, that was the other alternative but I figured it was easier to start on your end. He switched the locations where iMessage can reach you.

The problem is prob under settings, messages and send and receive. My mom is under my account and every so often I start getting her messages and have to “uncheck” her number on my send and receive. I turned the iMessage off on my ipad because it became annoying to receive messages on two devices.
