Talking of FIITJEE, I feel kinda suffocated in the environment there. But I can’t do anything, because that’s what it’s meant for. IITJEE!

I know what you’re talking about. This is life my friend.

Otoh, if you’re focused enough, you might as well learn something there.

^ How’d it go for you debarghaya ? Assuming that you took it.

^Not good. I guess I’m only barely good in two of the three subjects that IIT-JEE tests. There’s Chemistry that has always eluded my comprehension.

I messed up actually. I spent far too long battling Chem. I should’ve given Math more time.

@perfectpixee - are you doing the FIITJEE US UniQuest program, if so which city did you do it and also will you surely get into the ivy league. what boards did you do and what marks did you get. SAT scores ? I’m alan form bangalore. I wanted to just know.

^She hasn’t done that program and she’s a 2015’er who’s already had her decisions.

Perfectpixie got into Harvard, Princeton and UPenn. :p

This program is awesome as f***. WOW. I WISH THEY HAD THIS FOR US!!!

What crap. It’s just serving the role of a Counseling agency. Btw, Ani, FIITJEE did have something for students wanting to go abroad during our time too. For students under FIITJEE Pinnacle, a similar facility was available.
God, I sound like a free walking talking FIITJEE advertiser.

That’s not true. They’ll teach AP, SAT, etc. and give guidance about universities etc so I think its good enough and not everyone is super-enthu about college like we are, you know. Plus everything will be structured. For example, I didn’t know about APs till July-August otherwise I’d have given them

Wow perfectpixie and aniruddhc, you got into Harvard and Carnegie Mellon? Do you mind private messaging or linking me to your stats?

Hey texaspg, just recently, I found myself defending another school, and the similarity of my defense for that school with yours for USC made me see that I was wrong to characterize the whole school based just a few things heard here and there. :)

@Ani: Stoooopp.

OK, But I have a few questions.

To Anirudh - What the heck are these IB courses and AP courses. And which college did you get into. Also, what extra curriculars can we Indian have, not many rite? Also, See, I’m doing ISC (PCMB). Even if I get an 80 % in ISC, its like amazing, so how will the US Universities know, how tough some boards are in India. Also, what did you get on the SAT. I got 75% in my ICSE Boards, 70- math, 62- science, 85- english. Do you think I’ve got a chance at the Ivies…

I have been admitted to my first choice major of Civil / Structural Engineering in UCSD / UCI / Purdue and waiting for UMich. I would like to get help on deciding based not only on rankings but also on overall undergrad experience and job opportunities / internships. I may also change to Chemical Engineering which was my second choice of major though I do not know if that should be a factor currently in my decision making.

Do guide with your comments / suggestions.

Best wishes and continued success to all of you.

Thanks

@Alan

Well the IB Diploma is something like ISC (i.e. for 11th and 12th) but it’s supposed to be one of the toughest programs. It includes extra-curricular activities and theory of knowledge, as well as a college-level research paper. If you are doing ISC, no need to do it.

AP courses are advanced “college-level” (not really) courses that US students usually take. I think you can buy the books and take the exam in India too. You should google it. Without knowing your complete profile I cannot chance you but to put your question in perspective, I know people with even 95% in ICSE and decent ECs who have been rejected by the Ivies. So you can put in an application as a high reach if you want but make sure to apply to more realistic schools too.

@smelly harbor - Man, you are one well informed person. Thanks a lot, you are erasing a lot of doubts form my mind. Say, what if I get 85 % in my board exams, will that be good enough? Also, considering the Ivies being too competitive, should I also look at the Claremont colleges? See, I’m interested in robotics, and have made some robots, etc. But other than some sports medals I don’t really have a lot of extra curriculars. I play the violin and have completed 4th Grade. I sing in my church choir, I am really good at computers ( the inside and out). I know how to ethically hack. I know Spanish. Plus, I’m really good at quiz. I participate at my church community service programs. But, I don’t think that these are strong solid EC’s right, smelly harbour? Thanks a lot for your reply, honestly, it made my day!

No problem Alan, glad to help. You mean 85% in your ISC boards? I don’t see how that could help because you will have already submitted your apps by then. In our school we have something called a “predicted grade”, don’t know if they have that in India. I guess some of the Indian students here can help out. 11th marks are very important as well.

By Claremont colleges I assume you mean Harvey Mudd with your interest in robotics. I think that will be a reach for you too. Unfortunately I cannot judge your ECs. Not a good chancer I am afraid! Perhaps you could ask some of the people here who have applied for robotics/CS/engineering for suggestions as to where to apply. I am more of a humanities person (also from Bangalore!) so I don’t have more than a rudimentary knowledge of those schools e.g. CMU, UIUC, GT etc. etc.

Thanks for replying smelly harbor, I will finish 12th STD, next year. So I’ve got to complete my12th and then apply right? How about liberal arts, do you have to be good at science subjects for it or do you have to take math and a science subject for humanities, in college. By the way which university are you in now ? Which school did you study in, while you were in Bangalore. Which board did

Which board did you do and what marks did you get? Thanks again smelly harbor. Alan
