Tsk. You don’t even know!

know wat??

yeah! Know what?

wow I really am beginning to sound like a bot :p

Adides-
"exactly…but it does not have to be all related to studies…we have gone over this time and time over again…but there is more to life than just books…and that is to have fun…to have a blast, unlike 99% of the people out there…to go out…do stupid, silly stuff…and just have fun…

trust me…20 years from now…you might not remember a single thing about quadratic equations…but you will remember a hell lot of things about those wild times around the town…those school bunking days…those drunken nights…those basketball games…those first dates, etc. etc…"

EXACTLY my point.
i just think as indians we over emphasize studying to a ridiculous extent.

do you mind if i quote that in my newsletter adides?

depends on ur circumstances actually… my parents do and they have every bloody reason to do so… if only i listen as much as they wud liek me too… of course they nvr discourage from non-academic/ec development…

Hey its a means to an end, if you dont study then get ****ed and work in the railway station. Face reality guys you neeed to EMPHASIZE on studying in order to jump the rest and land on top of the pile especially in India.

I really find it hard to believe anyone here has committed himself/herself to studies to an extent that he/she has forgotton abt life outside it. So why talk abt it now:)

HAPPY RANDOM DAY PEOPLE ( yea its really a day !)

oh my God! It is!!!

lol!! Happy random day to u guys too then… :)

yea of course you have to study

but it’s this misconception that pure academics will lead you to success.

face it- you mite graduate from IIt but if your a blubbering geek who can’t talk about anything apart from programming codes, ur screwed.

everywhere aroud me i see geeks appearing for every single exam they find, mugging entire libraries, having NO social life whatsoever, no extracurriculars , no hobbies… we’re 17-18 for crying out loud, we’re supposed to have fun!

i know guys who whose parents don’t even encourage them to talk with girls. i know people who don’t come out and party with us because they will get “distracted”.

distracted from WHAT? the holy grail- the text book.

so fine, these work horses who put in 14 hour study days in their VACATIOn might get into IIT, MIT etc but you need something more in life. i honestly cannot see them negotiating deals, impressing clients, entertaining the kids of clients or do any of the stuff that gets you ahead.
because anyone can work hard. it’s easy. but charming someone, impressing someone, winning over someone- thats the result of a developed personality. and holing yourself up in your room is not going to help youin that sense.

i know tons of people who got 93’s, 94’s on their boards but who have absolutely no life skills. and they think they are SO smart. (if you work hard enough, any idiot can get the marks in our wonderful education system). i’m looking forward to see how these “brains” and “genius’s” cope with life in america- where they WILL be confronted with alcohol, sex, bully’s, a new life- all this without mommy and daddy cooking food for you so that you don;t waste time that can be better put to use studying.

don’t get me wrong- i have trmendous respect for people who put in 14 hour study days- i know i can’t do that. my point is that we need to recognize that perhaps, if you don’t graduate from MIT, IIT, don’t get a 90%, YOU CAN STILL SUCCEED.

im not implying that we all stop studying all together and become pot smoking hippie’s, but that we learn to live, learn to love.

personally, i think academics can only take you so far- then it’s ur character.
look around in your college/school- how many people even read the newspaper? not to many i guess. why don’t they? because its non academic? because they don’t have the time?

now, should the government include +1% in the exams for knowledge of current affairs, the newspaper woud be committed to memory every morning.

if all you want to do is study, sure you can become a scientist, lawyer, docto wtvr. and a really good one at that. but if you really want to rock the world, have history remember you (“…and we shall look back and say, This was a man.”-Mark Antony, Julius Caesar), you need something more.

^disclaimer: the above piece of writing is a product of my own boredom and is not directed towards anyone in particular. having followed this thread for over 3 months now, i have been incredibly impressed by everyones knowledge of matters concerning pretty much everything ( which i find lacking in the average person, and the reason i enjoy this thread so much). in no means do i wish to belittle or rob anybody of their accomplishments, academic or otherwise. we all have different approaches to life, and we’ve turned out just fine. every single person on this thread has displayed a concern for issues and a willingness to change things. so have fun, drink (if u want to), party, study, live it up.

becaue, you don’t need thick glasses and oil n your hair to be “SMART”.

anybody knows russian?? lol…

neha, NTU was fine. It was easy, athough im not too proud of my presentation. Its been too long since ive written a subjective exam. And the paper specifically mentioned presentation… :(

Yeah what presentation

I dont study 14 hours a day. I study closer to 14 minutes a day - on the productive days. I am willing to bet that i study less than atleast 80% of the people on this thread.
