Indiana University Bloomington Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

Seems like they need more time for holistic review. I think it is likely going to be at least a few weeks to find out about DA decisions but I could be wrong.

Where is that? My kid did not have that (from what I saw) but one of his friends did.

You needed to check off one of the business school specific major choices in your IU general application and then received the invite to fill out the KPI survey sometime after that. Then you would be accepted IU, evaluated fro Kelley Direct Admissions, and if not you might receive a pre-business major acceptance.

Your stats exceeded their prior ADA requirment by quite a bit - so even though they are not using that specific threshold, I would be somewhat surprised if you were not DA to Kelley.

Or maybe some DA will come out later today such as the strong stat kid above who hasn’t heard yet?

I’ve spoken with the dean of admissions for kelley and if i remember correctly, they dont have DA anymore

My kid is high stat, 1560, 4.0UW, tons of APs, good ECs, and has nothing in her portal yet.

That isn’t quite how it works.

There are two statuses at IU for business.
You are either a Direct Admit (DA) student at Kelley or a pre-business student (which means you may be granted admission if you achieve at least a B+ in every first year class (it may be going up to A- next year).

If not admitted as a DA student, I would not go unless you are really comfortable as a student in another major outside of Kelley (as the majority of pre-business students do not advance into Kelley). For some, that is fine…they switch to another major and get a Kelley minor. But, if it is Kelley or nothing, I’d go elsewhere.

Like I said, I’m 90% sure that DA doesn’t exist for kelley anymore, and it’s only pre-business

in state or oos? I’m oos

DA still exists, but they got rid of automatic DA with a 3.8+W/1370+ SAT

Also OOS.

That’s not true.

There absolutely is still DA for Kelley. The only change is that the way to earn DA status is through a holistic review now. There is no more automatic qualification based on grades/test scores.

It’s the same process as it was in prior years for kids who gained DA status on appeal because they didn’t meet the grades/test score cutoff.

Thanks. You’re right (of course), the criteria is A- or better. I appreciate that it’s very specific and transparent: https://kelley.iu.edu/undergraduate/admissions/current-iu/2026-criteria.html

Again…the A- thing only applies to the pre-business kids. If you are a DA student that cutoff doesn’t apply.
I have a kid who is a DA student there now. He feels very badly for the stress put on the pre -business kids there (he knows a kid who had all As and one B who will not gain admission because you need a B+ or better in every class to advance).

It seems that A- is a ā€œfrictionlessā€ entry, but you can have up to three grades lower than A- and still be considered:

Students who have either of the following on their academic record at the end of their first semester at IU Bloomington will be ineligible to pursue standard admission to the Kelley School of Business:

Three (3) or more of the following:

  • Any letter grade below an A- (B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-)

  • Withdrawal (W)

  • Incomplete (I)

  • X grade (X)

On their website they made it seem like they would make the Kelley decision by today:

Students who apply to Indiana University Bloomington by the Early Action deadline of November 1 and submit their KPI by November 15 will receive a response from IU Office of Admission regarding admission status with IU by January 15.

  • If admitted to IU, students will also receive a Kelley direct admission decision—categorized as admitted, waitlisted, or pre-business. Students placed on the Kelley direct admission waitlist can expect a final decision no later than April 17.

that is wrong. DA does exist.

exactly, it might be later today but they might have a bunch of applicants and still need more time. This sucks for me because I was going to decide if I should apply to 2 more colleges based on my kelley decision.
I’m just gonna apply to those 2 now but ugh I wish I knew

I have heard of students seeing a Waitlist to Kelley Direct Admit in their portal. So I believe decisions will/are today.

That is a good point… people can access the waitlist forms. I would assume if they made decisions about waitlisting then they def made decisions about accepted or rejected
