no, the waitlist option means you are waitlisted. They read your application and only want you if you want them and if they have space.
I think they just didn’t have time to check our applications yet. I think the IU review team looked at it and sent it to the kelley review team but they put us on hold for rn
Same, I even went to a kelley hs program in person (from the west coast) and met the admission dean and whatnot. Also, about your theory of still reviewing, when did you submit your IU app/KPI? I did mine pretty late (10/23 IU, 10/26 KPI)
Is he a Direct Admit to KFBS, or was he admitted to UNC general with interest in business/KFBS? I ask because they’ve changed their protocol this year and are doing more DA to KFBS now, and less of the current UNC student admit application after 1st or 2nd year.
Our D26 has been waitlisted to UNC (which isn’t surprising, we are 3/3 of our kids being waitlisted with similar stats to D26). Shes in at UGA, Kelley, Daniels, Haslam. Waiting on Texas tonight (Probably a deferral), then UIUC, NCSU, and U-Washington. We are debating UMich app RD, but would likely go public policy econ route versus trying to go thru Ross as direct admit.
My son was at Purdue Daniels Finance/Accounting first year and took his sophomore Guaranteed admissions offer at UNC - He did the fall application to KFBS without any UNC course/grades to report and was declined (not surprising) and is reapplying in fall - but their admit process has changed ‘priorities’.
My MBA is from KFBS and we live in Raleigh visit Chapel Hill often - so I’ve tried to keep up. I’ll give some spec info in another post.
What is happening here is similar to prior years. There was a wave admitted directly to Kelley last year (but it was based on strictly stats) and then more kids were admitted on appeal.
There will likely be more kids who are in pre-business now who will get in as DA. However, how many and when may be dependent on them managing class size (if more kids accept their DA offer than usual they have more spots to give and vice versa if fewer kids enroll).
Even so, while they’d be guaranteed a spot at Keenan Flagler (which is awesome) they don’t really begin start business school until later on. It’s just a different experience than Kelley (not saying one is better or worse, they are both great programs).
My daughter got in Direct Admit to Kelley! OOS. 3.84 UW, 4.6 weighted, IB student with internship, DECA officer, Yearbook editor, 4 yr varsity athlete, NHS, etc. Test optional!
Since we are OOC, he will not hear from UNC until February 15th. He applied as a direct admit, knowing it would be a bit more difficult. Admitted to Purdue Daniels as well. Seems as though all schools are becoming increasingly more difficult to be accepted into.
He is currently deferred at Mendoza/ND (where he really wants to go), but Kenan-Flager seems like a great option for him as he is Business/Pre-med. I’m a bit worried about the size of Kelley, and it seems less flexible than other programs as well.
True. UNC has gen ed requirements for all freshman - and first year will likely be most of those regardless. However, I beleieve if you are DA for KFBS, you get priority for all the base level B-School class to enroll rather than having to fight to get into them like a standard non-kfbs student who wants to apply to get in later. And I believe you are invited to their career resources, B-school events, resume help etc even as a freshman.
One of my MBA classmates sat on a couple of the advisory boards for the B-School and now sits on one of the advisory boards for UNC general now (I think he may be being groomed for Board of Regeants but thats a longshot to get on). I have been told KFBS moved to the majority DA decision because they felt like they were losing some very high / high quality students to other schools who gave them automatic slots into their b-school right away, while UNC did few DAs and most had to apply through standard process after first year (where only about 40-50% are taken).
Plus, they’ve started expanding class size with their brand new expansion building Bell Hall.
