Indiana University Bloomington Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

Please don’t take this the wrong way. But was IU not your kids top 1 or 2 choice? Just curious is all.

No it wasn’t. He was definitely interested and knows it’s a good school but it wasn’t top 1 or 2.

Hopefully he got good news from his top ones!

My son is still waiting on a SM decision from PH. As I feared, it is going to the very last day.

If you’re writing a really good LOCI it’s going to
Have many of the things IU is asking for. 200 words is nothing.

I guess it depends on the letter. My son’s guidance counselor’s general advice for LOCI is to keep them pretty short and sweet, to reiterate interest for the school with just a few sentences and then add a few more updating about anything new academically, extracurricularly, etc. Nothing complicated or long winded.

Thank you. He has gotten some good news, yes but lots of deferrals as well.

Why does them being good or elite have anything to do with it…IU has gotten much more competitive the last 5 years and have been inundated with applications. They have to put something into place to see who really wants it…and if this isn’t turn child’s 1st or 2nd choice then what does it matter if they have an essay? Your child wasn’t going to go to IU at all, assuming they got into their other choices. Just seems bitter.

If you don’t mind sharing, what school or major did your daughter apply to? I’m curious whether deferrals are from all schools/majors or just Kelley applicants.

Truly I am not remotely bitter at all. I just think it’s a lot to ask of kids by mid to end of Jan, that’s all. Yes IU has become very popular. But they are hardly the only school that’s been inundated more this year or over the last few years with an unprecedented number of applications. And most of these other schools aren’t making kids jump thru another significant hoop. (And for what it’s worth my child will probably end up somewhere that’s not as highly regarded as IU but where he will likely end up happier for other reasons not really worth getting into.)

She got accepted to Butler, Michigan State, Alabama. Major is Kinesiology so IU would be school of Public Health.

At 80% acceptance rate, I wouldn’t call IUB as competitive. Even the mid-50% stats are pretty sub-par. Not trying to demean IUB by any means; just trying to explain how many above average applicants will consider it a safety.

My daughter’s LOCI (modeled after my son’s from 2 years ago and he ended up getting in) is about 500 words. 200 to 400 isn’t really much

Which IU knows and will defer to see if they really have interest. But I think the 80% is misleading as they have been deferring, waitlisting, and denying a lot more the past couple of years.

In Fall 2023 they admitted 43K out of 53k applicants, and only 1100 odd were admitted of waitlist.
So, they did admit a large part in EA/RD rounds.

Thanks. Also on the IU Application Status portal, once admitted, if you scroll all the way down, there is a link for the “Red Carpet Day”.

You can submit the kelley essay to IU. I don’t think they care, they are just gauging interest.

Edited to add: I thought there was already such an essay in the IU app, maybe it was missing or optional in the common app.

Son not accepted yet. No notification. Still waiting. I’m definitely suspicious. There is no reason to think he won’t be accepted. 2 friends who were accepted in Dec. have lower gpas. He’s got a 4.7 or 4.8 w. Very involved with his music. He applied sometime in August. Beats me

And the portal shows nothing owed ? What major or school ? TO or test submit.

Same with my kid. Should be DA to kelley. No change in portal. Seems like everyone from their school has already heard.
