Indiana University Bloomington Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

I agree. There is something very off putting about this process compared to other schools. Yes they will fill their class with kids just fine but to run a process this poorly is a shame. I think it’s more a reflection of it being a “seller’s market.” They have more than enough applicants and there isn’t much consideration for the ones they string along. For us this began with the transcript not being loaded for the longest time which delayed my daughter’s ability to do her Kelley petition. Both her guidance counselor and outside counselor commented on this being frustrating. Then there’s the Kelley petition itself. You’re somewhat led to believe they admit a lot of petition apps but it seems to be more of a mechanism for them to even out the DA admit class. If you don’t take any demographics into consideration for DA, you are going to come up short on gender etc. It’s interesting to say the least. They have and will continue to lose some really amazing kids due to the petition process. And I do get it. It’s odd to me though. Two essays, no review of the common app…… The rankings are good, the MBA program is strong but there’s something amiss with this process. In my opinion. I formerly worked in investment banking and came from a non target school - I’m not completely out of touch. I also have a masters in higher ed and worked at Columbia. Universities can be surprisingly de-centralized and I think that could be part of what’s going on. Indiana can run its process however it likes. We can make our own decisions. My daughter should go to the school that wants her and she has others that do. We will see what happens. Bottom line, they can and should try to improve this process.

All the best to those waiting and to those with glitches. I want to validate you and say it stinks, decisions should have been released when they said, and it bodes poorly on IU.

Good luck for those waiting. If you can pause, step back, wait for the decision, I hope you can see a bigger picture, and if the school will still get you where you want to go, then attend. This might be just a blip on a fabulous college journey at IU.

I agree with your assessment of IU/Kelley. Besides the “Awaiting Decision” snafu that we are still experiencing, 2 of son’s classmates were admitted to Kelley. One of them did not even meet the SAT minimum requirement so why are they already admitting this applicant when they have others who do meet the DA requirement and are not yet reviewed?! It is a slap in the face to my kid who has 1500+ SAT and 4.75 uw GPA. Sigh.

I’m sorry. That’s extremely frustrating and unnecessary. In the time this is taking, Penn State has denied kids, they have appealed and already heard back. I’m really sorry about the delay in your child’s application. I realize that some universities take longer but when you consider additional visits, scholarship applications and housing - it would be nice to know.

For those families with the “Awaiting Decision” status on their admissions portals, here is a response from an assistant director whom my son contacted. I am glad that IU at last owned up to their error.

“Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are currently running some audits for anyone that may have been missed in the release yesterday. Unfortunately at this time I do not have a timeline of when this will be resolved. This appears to be a system error and we are working to resolve it. I will keep an eye on the progress and reach out should anything further be needed.”

I just spoke to a gentleman in the AO regarding my son’s application just now. I mainly wanted to confirm that we weren’t missing something from his app even though the portal says “Application Complete.” He said they received everything on time and that he is still eligible for EA decision but they are just running behind on releasing them. They are releasing decisions in batches of 2000 several times a day and his is still being processed. They said to keep checking the portal and we should see a decision over the weekend or early next week. Glad to hear he is still eligible, but it’s unfortunate things weren’t managed on their end to roll out all decisions on time. We are going to stay positive and all we can do is wait at this point. Which is the endless torture of college applications - waiting!! Haha.

I’m not trying to invalidate what you are saying, but kids lie or at least sometimes don’t tell the entire truth. Unless you have access to this other student’s College Board records, I’m pretty certain that they have met the minimum requirements. Or even if they didn’t lie, maybe they retook the SAT and got the score needed. Kelley would not DA someone that didn’t meet the requirements - that’s why they have a petition process.

Yeah, kids can lie but hard to believe that he would lie about his lower SAT score… Most would brag about higher SAT score.

Thank you for sharing. We are in similar position. We are oos and from a state that is likely fairly new to IU as many go in state here. Sadly we are assuming it will be a no despite 4.3 IB classes from the top HS in state. The IU rep that visited wasn’t great and seemed phoning it in. Daughter applied anyway as friends from other states have loved it. Bummer, but great lesson to encourage to go where you are wanted.

Kids sandbag all the time. ALL THE TIME.

I can tell you with 1000% accuracy Kelley has not reviewed a single petition. Kid might be confused about getting into Kelley, lying or IU incorrectly noted as admitted to Kelley (and this is EXTREMELY RARE). And if the applicant who had DA scores and didn’t hear - I get the reaction - but I hope that feeling of a a slap in the face improves - that applicant was never even looked at by Kelley. Or IUB for that matter. Simply was put in the EA2/RD pile to be looked at soon by coding. System failure, but zero to do with Kelley or AOs.

It’s odd for IU to not have emailed that they had some not released - they’ve done that in prior years. That’s a real fail. No reason to have done that last year and not this one.

Not only do people sandbag all the time they LIE all the time. Not specific to the friend here - people lie about admissions, scholarships, scores… Even on message boards like this people come on and lie. I don’t get it.

Maybe he lied about getting into Kelley and just was admitted to IUB.

Not saying this is the case, but it’s also possible he is actually confused. A lot of kids see an IU acceptance with a business major listed and think that means they got into Kelley - when it’s actually “pre-business”

Yes, this. I’ve seen a number of people on Facebook groups assume that pre-business is Kelley.

I just wanted to understand if the Direct Admission Review Request he sent back in November was already done and his Pre-Business admissions was the result of being denied a Direct Admission OR if this is just the 1st part of the process and AOs are still reviewing his Review Request? How do we find this out?

Kelley hasn’t started reviewing petitions. Petitions are due February 1st and they will start reviewing then. He’ll hear directly from Kelley in April

Not necessarily in April, but by April. Some will likely hear as early as mid-Feb

Oos student here, applied EA, still waiting to hear decision. Should we check by calling or just wait?

DA requirements for the Sports Management program are different than Kelly, as the program is housed in the School of Public Health.

Direct Admit Kinesiology/Sports Marketing:

  • 1270 on the SAT or 29 on the ACT
  • The applicant must have either graduated in the top 12 percent of his or her high school graduating class or earned a minimum high school GPA of 3.5.

Or I think I read at one time, transfer into the program after doing some of their generals with at least a 3.25 GPA

Theoretically, my son would qualify for DA with those requirements. I guess we will see. Still waiting…
