@ somewhereibelong
Congrats!! Are you definitely going to MIT?

@gary and the rest:

Sorry for that comment. :(

@esconie: do you live in mumbai? Which school were you from?

Um…yeah. Do I know you?

Lol obviously not :P

Which school though? Kinda curious! :)

Not obvious at all, its a REALLY small world…or so it seems sometimes lol. I attend one of the craziest junior colleges in Bombay, I really wouldn’t want to say more than that in the interest of anonymity, sorry. Where are you from?

Yea and I’m pretty sure we know each other/heard of each other… Just like everyone in every ICSE school…

I’m from JNS.

@Forum members: Me and esconie actually know each other personally hahaha :P

@esconie
Hey! Congratulations!
I’m very keen on attending, am only waiting for Stanford and Harvard now I suppose.
What about you?

@KJ- I got into IISER through an alternate channel in 11th, and its as good as or better than IIT for me, so I’m not looking at much else in India. And SELECTION at IIT is not that big a deal if you’ve taken coaching classes and stuff. I’m not claiming to get a top 10 rank here :stuck_out_tongue:
@careshwall- are you on mathlinks/aops?

no…

@esconie: Congrats on your acceptance! Really feels good every time I come across an Indian accepted at MIT! And about posting your stats here, it kinda helps future applicants get a VAGUE idea of their chances. I’m stressing on VAGUE. So it’s not entirely pointless.

@gary: I always thought even scraping through to get admitted at IIT was a big deal! But again, that’s probably because I’ve never been interested. One thing for certain is that I can’t settle for an Indian University. I’m just not suited for the system.

I haven’t been ‘interested’ either. Its been forced upon me by virtue of existence :stuck_out_tongue: I’m not meant for the Indian system either, but I couldn’t go to a US ‘safety’ either due to parental/social pressure <_< I had to fight for months before convincing them that Princeton/Harvard>IIT!

gary same here

gary & carreshwell same with me too

^^ I thought you left coaching <_<

yeah i left bt i had to convince my parents for dat

Nice stuff! Congrats esconie, somewhereibelong!

And well done to everyone else! Don’t worry, you will eventually reach where you have to be, if you be yourself. Just don’t try to be another person, or you will get admitted for being another person, and will have to remain as that other person.

Myself, I live in Doha, Qatar, but I’ll apply as an Indian because I’m an Indian citizen. I’m attending a CBSE school. I’ll be applying for next year (still in school now :slight_smile: ). I’ve been working on software projects since 2004, mostly computer games (involve fun 3d math, vectors, quaternions etc.), and learnt a lot of stuff in the process. Do check out my website with my projects here, especially my current one, GraLL 2/url. I’ll be entering GraLL 2 in the IGF this year. The ‘students’ section usually has games made by university people, but many people I know from the game development community suggested I enter GraLL 2 in it - they thought it was better than some university projects - yay. :stuck_out_tongue: You can check out my biography too (although this is just the ‘computer-side’ of me).

Right now I’m self studying for AP Physics C and AP Calculus BC (my school doesn’t offer AP - it’s not american - and no American schools here offer courses for students not attending the same school - also I find stelf-study fun anyway). Hoping for a 5 in both, gonna write 'em in Dubai. ^_^

Hopefully I can get the ‘passion’ accross - I’ve been working on these games not because someone’s pushing me or for money or for awards - I’ve been doing them just ‘for fun’. :)

How many Indians have gotten in to MIT this year? Any idea?

There is a list somewhere with the hometowns on the site I heard.
