Starting today I realized there’s a little clock on my lock screen in the lower left corner (it links to the clock/alarm/etc function). It also appears when I swipe to close an app. Not really a problem but it’s a teeny bit distracting to see so wouldn’t mind having it not be there if at all possible.
Nothing changes if you press home to wake your iPhone. It works just as it did before with Touch ID.
All of my text message history vanished after this update. I never sync the phone to a laptop so I’m afraid it’s all gone forever. Need to get in the habit of saving messages & photos I don’t want to lose.
Edit Oddly the messages showed up again this afternoon. Time to start saving them…
I have a 6 and you can change it in settings to open just with Touch ID
Anyone have an idea why the alarm on my SE will only vibrate when it goes off instead of making a sound? My phone is not set to silent and it does alert me with sounds when I get a text, etc. The alarm is set to vibrate as well as make a sound. When I tested it and turned off the vibrate setting, it just lit up when the alarm went off - no sound at all. I haven’t had the iPhone for very long so I’m not sure what else to try. I have used it in the past and it was fine. This is the first time I have tried to use the alarm since the update. I don’t know whether it is related to the update or just a coincidence. Thanks!
@benreb : Have you verified your settings for the alarm? I found that a couple of mine got changed [reset to the defaults] when I accepted the update.
I rebooted it and now it’s working. Thanks!
When I do an update iTunes always seems to mess up. The whole family has access to the same iTunes account. My son was in a play last year and downloaded the soundtrack. I had to click through every. song. from “Oklahoma” and delete them individually. I think he secretly must still listen to it or it would be disabled.
If you have limited data plan, you may want to read this.

There is a new feature (wifi assist) that may use cellular data while you are on wifi. To turn it off
go to Setting
Click on Cellular Data
Go all the way to the bottom and turn off Wifi Assist.
This is for @thumper1
Turn off background refresh

I hate it. I have to now click multiple times just to get to my home page, even though I removed all those stupid widgets. I wish I had not upgraded.
You can - and should - turn off keyboard sounds. That’s really annoying to others around to hear every single keystroke of your messages.
@TranquilMind : My keystrokes are nothing in comparison to other people’s inane & interminable conversations. I’m glad your hearing is so good, but I think you need to chill on this one.
WiFi Assist and Background Refresh are not new with IOS10, just that some people’s settings might have reset with the update. WiFi Assist came in on IOS 9.
In general, it’s recommended that you turn off WiFi Assist for streaming apps like video and music. Also close apps when you’re not using them instead of leaving them open in the background.
I hate the clicking keyboards sounds too. Not as much as stupid conversations, but I can still hear them. My DH has his texts set to double ding and that drives me bonkers.
I just saw the first rational explanation for the “press home button to unlock” change: it’s nice to lefties, for whom the sweep from left to right with the primary thumb is not as easy, Frankly, I’m not a thumb person (I tended to sweep with my index finger), so this is only half an explanation in my book, but it’s something. Happy update, all you southpaws!
As a lefty, the swipe to unlock feature is far down the list of uneasy tasks (can openers take the cake however…). It never bothered me before, although I used both hands indiscriminately to unlock my phone, and the touch to unlock feature doesn’t bother me now.
My opinion on the rationalization: merp.
Just call me Pollyanna, @Niquii77: always looking for the good in things. Can openers. Ouch.
Upgraded my ipad but not my phone.
Here’s neat tricks with ios10. I know I will be using the magnifier. It was getting embarrassing to read tiny prints in public. I had to bring it up to my nose to read a grocery label.

@bearcatfan I’m sorry I missed your response back in #42. I had to completely back up and restore my phone to get the wifi to stay connected and to get my alarm to play out instead of only vibrating (I saw @benreb mentioned this also). It is now functioning as intended.
I must admit, I like some of the changes. Some take getting used to, but this has definitely been one of the better updates for me. I have a 6s.
