@jym626 before my D got married they tried to get her insurance as a domestic partner, Her boyfriend (now husband) worked for the Univ of California. They had been living together for quite a number of years and owned a home together. If they had been a same sex couple of if over a certain age she could have got coverage. I do have a friend who gets coverage through his live in girlfriend through a municipality in the state of Ca.
Yes, in my post I did mention tax and legal benefits to marriage. Legal benefits can usually be arranged outside of marriage though. It’s done fairly frequently for all kinds of non-marriage relationships.
For those who are religious, sure. However, more and more people aren’t these days.
@mom60 - the issue for DS #1 and now wife is that she was an employee of the federal government, not the State of CA.
D1 and her husband do not want to have children. They got married in spite of that.
Like I said, kind of surprised me.
I can confirm that it’s available in the private sector in NY. My S was laid off in January and his insurance ended at the end of the month. His soon-to-be wife added him to her policy. All they had to do was present a lease signed by both and a joint bank account.
ShawD and BF moved across country to take a job at one of the tech giants. He told them his GF was moving with him and asked if she could be on his health insurance. Although not required by law, they said yes. I don’t believe he was asked to present any evidence.
@“Youdon’tsay” You give me hope! In the meantime, please point me in the direction of the ‘children who’ve never dated’ thread - I’d like to see exactly how common / normal this is!
Here are the two threads. I don’t know why they were closed. Funny yhat in the update I say ds1 started dating a girl but that it was new. Yeah, well, most of those two months were over winter break and she “broke up” with him when they got back. Boooo!
