Ii is really mind boggling how such a leggy, slinky, tall, angular creature can fit inside a round belly!
@BunsenBurner, I no longer wonder that after giving birth to my son!
I think she is just going to continue to graze through her delivery!
I was just thinking the same thing, @ECmotherx2! Man, she EATS.
I’m new to this…they have ultrasounded her right?? There is for sure a baby? It seems like this has been going on for weeks.
Not sure if there is ultrasound involved or not but there are a lot of ways to tell if one - human or animal - is pregnant without ultrasound.
It seems long to us because the initial call by the humans was apparently wrong. We all started watching too early. Bad for us, good for the place’s advertising and income stream.
I assume they can estimate age/due date based on size though…? Although I just looked it up and it seems like 13-15 months is normal which is quite a window.
I was told that they can’t do an ultrasound because the epidermis is too thick.
After awhile I got frustrated, but now I just like peeking in on her. I love that face now, I enjoy Oliver, all the people who come to visit. I love watching her eat the carrots being fed to her in the corner by the camera. I think I’ve gotten more attached over time than if it had happened a week later. Now I feel like I know her.
I signed up for the text and they are beginning to send information and pictures that are
“exclusive”
I’ve watched a sloth get an ultrasound. Of course they cannot run away or kick the living daylights out of the vet.
Animal Adventure Park’s owner has a business degree not a conservation related one. He is laughing all the way to the bank.
I was just at my salon and the manicurist walked in and said, “still no baby!” I said, are you talking about Apri!?" Of course she was - and all the other customers and stylist chimed in on how frustating it’s been waiting for “baby” to be born.
I’ve now watched three or four other giraffes give birth, though. B-)
“Our baby” doesn’t seem too interested in coming out to meet us!
gads
everytime I get a text I think it is about April
Is anyone else getting music with their live feed? I am getting the most beautiful classical piano accompanying my feed.
I keep my surface on mute… Thanks for the warning!
The official live feed is silent so you’re probably getting a “pirate” feed that’s streamed through some other provider. The official feed comes from the giraffe cam link at http://www.aprilthegiraffe.com/.
Our local zoo announced the birth of a baby giraffe this week - I personally haven’t watched April at all - but thought it was funny that so many local people I know have been keeping vigil - when there was a baby giraffe being born in our own city! Adorable. http://www.wtol.com/story/35094889/toledo-zoo-welcomes-adorable-baby-giraffe?utm_content=buffer65dce&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer
April has chosen to go outside today! It would be ironic if she chose to have her calf outdoors, out of view of the camera.
