Is it possible that I get kicked out of college?

So I got a call from my Dean’s office the other day, and they asked to set up an appointment with me. Confused, I asked why they wanted to meet with me, and all the secretary told me was that the Dean got some information and would like to meet with me.

Well, I thought about it all day and could not think of what I did to warrant a meeting with the Dean. Then, it hit me. A few weeks ago, Student Season hockey tickets went on sale online and it was a really weird online process. Due to the funky process and confusion, I ended up not getting student season tickets. I was sooooo angry at the time (Our college is very passionate about our hockey). I knew a bunch of other people that didnt get them either, so in my irrational anger, I decided to send a nasty email to the hockey ticket office, giving my two cents on what I thought about the whole process this year (It was different than years previously)…In the email, I dropped an Fbomb, and to close the letter I said “Fix this sh** or there will be riots.” Stupid, I know…that was the worst of the email.
So im 99% sure thats what my meeting with the Dean will be about. What do you think my punishment will be? Im very worried that I may get kicked out. I now realize how stupid and irrational I was to send that email.

It’s likely that the dean is going to talk to you to help determine whether you have been planning some kind of violent action against the university and to determine if you are mentally balanced enough to stay o campus. If you send a written apology to the hockey ticket office and copy the dean that probably will allay the dean’s fears and keep you from getting further punishment.

Happens all the time. A few weeks ago, a British kid got banned from visiting the United States after he sent off an offensive email to the President (wonder how they caught that one?)

Be careful next time.

I don’t think they can kick you out over this. Just see what the dean has to say, listen and be polite. Just explain yourself the way you have here and you should be fine.

I don’t think you’d be kicked out, but in this Zero Tolerance world you never know how a school may react.

I’m not sure how schools typically delegate their discipline, but the fact that the Dean himself would take time out of his schedule to deal with you makes it pretty serious.

A couple rules about emails.

1) Never say something in an email you wouldn’t say face to face.

2) Never send an email when angry.

3) Unlike spoken words, there is a paper trail. So don’t document yourself being a D-Bag.

I highly doubt you are going to be expelled or suspended.

Yeah, next time you get that frustrated go ahead and write that email, but instead of clicking send just delete it. You’ll still relieve some stress without having to have any negative repercussions (and you won’t have to go back and forth email incompetent people either).

Double check your school’s code of conduct or judicial affairs office to see what your rights and responsibilities and what you can and cannot be dismissed for. Empower yourself with knowledge!

I would tell him the truth. Tell him you are a huge hockey fan and you were really upset that you didn’t get the tickets.
