colleges: syracuse, binghamton, emory, UIUC, UW madison, george washington university, boston u, stony brook, buffalo

I think that due to your special circumstances (skipping a grade), your essays will really be the defining factor in your application. If you can show the admissions officer what you learned from what happened and how it affected you then that will obviously help.

my brother got into UW madison with 1170 and 91 avg… about similar ecs and bad recs and essay…but since 9th grade he improved so much…60 to 95 with 2 aps…but he does not attend there now

UW has an SAT range of 1180-1370. Your brother must have had some sort of hook (urm, atheletics, etc.) to get into a top 40 school like Madison.

doesn’t also syracuse 1150-1320, binghamton 1170-1340, GWU 1180-1370, BU 1220-1390 and yada yada yada…and my brother got into all the schools i just mentioned above, and Henrym288, my brother wasn’t good athelete and he had ECs similar to mine

your test scores are weak, but try to emphasize on your ECs. it’s amazing that you took care of your dad in korea… i think you can concentrate on service… taking care your dad and church volunteering…

I think, in addition to special circumstances, schools look at how you’re going do when you’re actually there. And while you have an pretty good math SAT score, most colleges have General Education requirements which are heavy on writing / reading skills. I think just a 500 on the writing and CR sections is REALLY going to hurt, even with all of those special circumstances.

Focus on your unique experiences (i.e. Korea) as defining characteristics, write good essays, present your material well, and I’d say you have a chance at all of the schools.
