Is this not the most pathetic thing ever?

I go to a typical big, public high school. The administration generally isn't that strict or anything, but it's not a free-do-what-you-want place either.

Well on Monday, they put up a giant stoplight in the Cafeteria, because apparently it gets too loud in there. When the stoplight is green, we're at a good volume and can continue to talk how we are. If the light turns yellow, we're getting a little too noisy and we have to quiet down a little. However, if it turns red, the lights in the cafeteria get dimmed and we have to be silent for the rest of the lunch period.

Well, during this week, we all figured that it'd never turn red and that the administration was just playing tough-guy. On tuesday and wednesday there were a couple 2 or 3 minute periods that the light was yellow, but it was never red.

Today, people started doing senior chants during lunch and the light instantly turned red (this was like 7 minutes into a 40 minute lunch) and the administrators dimmed the lights and we had to put our heads down/eat silently for the rest of the lunch period. It was absolutely ridiculous. And then apparently it was hanging at yellow for the entire next lunch because the administrators were still mad that it was red earlier on.

... do they realize that there's a difference between elementary and high schools?

...

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.

Oh man, that's really pathetic. Can't you just leave though? Since when do you have to stay in the cafeteria?

Wow, our teachers actually did that to us.
In 5th grade.

^^ closed campus, and we have to stay in the cafeteria.

My 5th grade teacher did this. Except not really.

lololololololololololol

sooo funny hahaha

woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow

wow. that's just beyond pathetic. I don't blame the students at all..I blame the staff and your hs administration who have no idea between the difference of elementary school and hs.

That is...

Epic failure

but I know of things more pathetic

hahahahaha! I had that in my elementary school cafeteria! I hated it!

Cafeteria? Our school doesn't have one; infact, I haven't had one since elementary.

But yes: teh sux.

It was already incredibly lame at giant stoplight, wow does your school suck.

Actually, what's more pathetic is that I just understood what you meant by stoplight. I call them traffic lights.

Wow. In my elementary school, they'd turn the lights down in the lunchroom and make us all out up the peace sign and tais-toi, but never in high school.

Just sneak off campus and eat elsewhere.

I believe it's tete-toi.

My elementary school had the same thing, except if the light turned red we got to keep talking that day but had to be silent for the entire lunch period the NEXT day.
I thought it was a dumb idea back then; in the High School it's just ****ing stupid.

I came to understanding of the green and yellow light, in such a way that staff ( such as security) would not have to attend many tables to lower the volume. Though I also could only look at the light indicators as suggestions, but not a force. Another complication is what students are actually going to be paying attention to the light color during lunch period, many may care less to look and use that as their excuse for high volume when spotlights indicate. Surprised to read the meaning of the red lights and what actions must be taken, considering high school students I'm not sure if many would follow through with the entire light process. I would understand why they are trying to keep the volume low in the cafeteria, as often the lunchroom can get out of control but there simply has to be a better way to handle the volume.

It's actually tais-toi. The verb is 'se taire'; 'tete' means head.
