It's National Coffee Day - what kind of you drinking?

$150-695/lb of coffee? Thats ridiculous. Sorry. I’ll stick with the free or affordable stuff. Today I had the Starbucks house blend (Melange Maison). I tend to drink the more bold coffees, but this was plenty rich and favorful.

Cheap instant.

Ucla_dad -

Can we swap you some of our Dunkin Donuts for some of your In-n-Out? We’ll throw in five guys…

Trader Joe’s mellow breakfast blend the last two mornings.

Tea as I write this. Hate the taste of coffee although I do not mind the smell.

Happy Friday tsdad!

Dudedad:

Did you see I mentioned you on the thread about meeting other CC members?

Huge weekend here in Madison with the Nebraska game, their first in the Big 10. Over 80,000 expected. Some of my senior (by title, not age) colleagues are shepherding around a private jet full of Nebraska dignitaries. That’s not something we would do; use a private jet.

I love my office coffee. I add Ghirardelli unsweetened baking chocolate powder (only ingredient is Natural cocoa) turmeric (yes, I am crazy, it makes it more bitter) and honey to it. Every time I try something else, I do not like the taste.

Currently drinking Costa Rican beans roasted by a local roaster. We alternate with Trader Joe’s Tanzanian Peaberry, which I have been hoarding because it’s seasonal.

Favorite roasters: Nicholas Coffee (in Pittsburgh) and M.E.Swing (in DC).

Hey tsdad -

Yep I saw the other thread. They are about to set jackhammers and such to Dunn Lorring to add a Harris-Teeter and other stuff. Guess they want Merrifield to look pretty like Reston Town Center.
Yeah that Big 10 game is big - enjoy!

^^^ M.E. Swing is terrific. I’ll try to check out Nicholas next time I’m in the Steel City.

We currently are using Peet’s house blend ( it must have been on sale)
Finally #1 in something that matters!

MiamiDAP, that sounds great! Does the turmeric make it spicy? Have you ever tried adding cayenne or chipotle? I love spicy hot chocolate but I haven’t tried coffee that way.

Sumatra. Peets or Trader Joe’s. Like the Peets best.

Right now - Peet’s Major Dickason’s blend.

Usually - Wegman’s brand - Danish blend if I can get it but they haven’t had it the last few trips.

Like most of the Starbuck’s coffees, but only when I make it. They make it too strong in the cafes.

The world most expensive coffee… **$695.00 USD/lb in a local coffe shop *or $50/12 oz/cup. About $150/lb directly from Indonesia, even at that price we cannot afford it. So we buy a lb and have one cup every two weeks or so

Oh my!

tsdad, yes, traffic awful driving home from work, as I guess the masses are descending. Wish I’d thought to rent out my house to someone who needs it. No hotel rooms in the area.

I guess I’m the only instant drinker on here. Folgers, or the organic kind from the coop. Much more commonly used in Asia and Britain, which is where I acquired the instant coffee habit. With sufficient milk and raw sugar, is not bad. Years ago, I drank high test french roast in great quantities, which gave me chest pain, and I was just in my mid 20s. So I stick with the lower caffeine instant, one cup morning and after work. The kids now brew coffee when home, and it is enjoyable, but a waste for my one cup only habit.

I like the smell of coffee- brewing or the grocery store aisle. However, I dislike the taste- I can tell it’s in tiramisu. Any time cooffee is added to a dessert it ruins it for me. Also find tea too bitter- no amount of milk and/or sugar or spices can make either of those palatable for me. I get my caffeine from diet Mt Dew- the best tasting of the no cal caffeinated drinks.

H will drink instant, ground or beans he grinds himself (I don’t make the coffee- I wouldn’t know if it was good or not). Nescafe Taster’s Choice- French Roast is the darker blend of choice, as are medium to dark roasts of brewed coffee.

That reminds me of a novel I just read.
A grower in Hawaii was being ripped off by their bookkeeper who was inflating the price of the beans to cover that he was skimming money so they had to charge $$$$$$ to the roasters ( who of course passed the costs to you), to make money.
The beans actually were crap, but everyone was so impressed by the price they were determined to find something special about it.
;)

Our friends’ traveling son brought back some of those coffee beans from Kenya (?) that are supposed to be the world’s most rare & expensive because they have passed through the digestive system of I think monkeys, and then been picked out and sterilized! They said it was very good coffee but I think I would pass.

We are currently working on a bag of coffee from Uganda. There’s a fair-trade co-op in our area that imports it.

I also like Godiva chocolate coffee. In any case, I put so much milk in my coffee (or the other way around) that the brand/kind don’t really matter. :)
