The only reason it matters is certainty and attending DA day. If it was me and I wanted to attend DA Day I would be calling on that focus - I have direct auto stats, 2 transcripts or no GPA - how do I attend DA day.
So sorry to hear that! With those stats, it would for sure have been an admit in prior years.
Do you think your child will try standard admit path or go somewhere else entirely?
TBD but heāll likely attempt the standard admit process. Heās coming from Atlanta, so with 6% Kelley from SE US I was a bit surprised he didnāt get waitlisted knowing they like to broaden geographic reach but with big increase in applicants and desire for increased female admits it is not totally surprising.
Disappointing for son since website stated 65% of review applicants get admitted at the time he applied (since been removed) bc expectations were he had a reasonable shot. Good marketing for the school I suppose bc he fell in love with the campus during his visit.
Fairly confident in estimate of 26K applicants this year, as professor used to work for family friend (Kelley undergrad, Kellogg MBA) and she reached out to him last week trying to help a current Kelley senior in his job search which then led to discussion about current # of applicants and # of spots (2400) this year.
Sorry to hear about the denial, any chance you know the day your son submitted his petition? Wondering if they are working chronologically or through a different way.
Thanks. A little disappointed but heāll be fine. Still excited about heading to Bloomington in the Fall. He submitted review request around Nov 12th, 2023. Based on earlier post I think the algorithm is categorizing candidates and driving the decision making process, so submission date likely had little to do with getting the news today. Good luck!
I believe we will be in the same boat; no word yet but OOS (NC), 4.0 Weighted, good ECās/leadership/serviceā¦curious about the non-Kelley plan you might have? (beyond of course trying to get in while there). Economics?
Oh sorry to hear that. Can you please share why was he not direct admitted? Is it due to multiple High schools?
Iām an out of state high school student with a 3.98 UW GPA. I will be graduating with my associates degree and my only B I got was at my local community college. I have great ECās such as starting a finance club at my school and playing varsity sports. I got a 29 on my act which was why I was left to petition. Does anyone know what my chances for DA would be?
I think the ACT cutoff for DA to Kelley is 30. That said, it seems like some folks on this thread have had better than that and are still waiting⦠confusing.
I had to petition since I didnāt meet the 30, if you meet the requirements, from my understanding youāll be receiving an answer very soon
Working through standard admission criteria now to determine how badly he wants to graduate from Kelley.
Standard admit path will require serious commitment from day 1 with minimal slips ups in any class to maintain auto qualify status after 30 hours. And during a year when heāll likely also join a fraternity and experience the freedom of an 18 year old on his own for the first time - translation - a lot of distractions.
While I prefer he decides to buckle down and go for it, Iām good with whatever he chooses as skills are developed and lessons learned in a lot of different ways including the mistakes heāll make.
Fall back is likely Economics which looks to be a solid path for finance, real estate investment type careers and tracks to his strengths.
Not a direct admit bc while ACT was above minimum required, GPA was below 3.8
yes, we had a family member go standard and get admitted after first year, and he then went on to harvard business school for his mba, so folks do make it, but I think if youāre a direct admit to another strong business school at another university, itās hard to take the gamble of a direct admit. Econ is a different field and requires a ph.d. to truly be an economist
I donāt know the answer to this, but you might want to ask⦠If your son is in an alternative major (like Econ) would he have access to Kelley clubs and organizations? It is my understanding that they have a lot of clubs that help with networking and skill practice in certain areas of finance and real estate. Similarly, would he be able to access any of the recruiting/career services offered by Kelley if he was looking for jobs in finance/real estate?
The idea that somehow not being admitted into Kelley means you cannot have a career in business is ridiculous. Work hard, network and make yourself employable. Your future Hoosier is going to be fine and have an awesome time at IU. Congratulations. They all run their own race.
Being an Econ major doesnāt mean you plan to be an economist. It means you studied a field that ultimately plays a major role in dictating business investment decisions (driving forces behind interest rate fluctuations, expected inflationary environments, etc.). In addition, the IU Econ program is ranked #14 nationally, so itās not exactly a worthless degree if a student chooses that path.
Heck, I have a friend that studied English Literature in undergrad, went to Kellogg and ended up as CMO, and then President of the largest telecom provider in the world. As someone else mentioned, there are many paths to a successful career in business, and itās also possible without a college degree.
great points and agree. Econ is nothing to sneeze atā¦
My D24 also met the GPA and SAT DA but had to petition (30Nov) b/c her school doesnāt calculate GPA and she has not yet heard a response from Kelley. Youāre not aloneā¦Weāre all on pins and needles waitingā¦
I applied Dec 30, 2023. Any idea when I may hear back?
I petitioned 10/16 and still havenāt heard so
