Waitlisted for me

Waitlisted for my son with Apr 25th as new date for decision on waitlist

Your academic record is truly impressive and demonstrates exceptional potential. The decision to place you on our waitlist was not made lightly and reflects the extraordinarily competitive nature of this year’s applicant pool. We recognize the hard work, dedication, and talent you’ve demonstrated, and we remain very enthusiastic about the possibility of you joining the Kelley community in the future.

If you wish to remain on the waitlist for direct admission, you do not need to take any further action. The Kelley Admissions Committee guarantees that you will receive a final decision on your admission status by April 25th, at 5pm EST. Students on the waitlist are not ranked and if space becomes available the Committee will reconvene to make additional offers of direct admission.

Please share if you are receiving a similar email as well

My daughter was waitlisted as well.
Could everyone who was waitlisted share the reason for their appeal? For her it was 2 transcripts because we moved.

Are you sure those are the right numbers? I remember hearing the 800, yes - those making it to Kelley via Standard Admit route. But total number of pre-business students I heard is closer to 4000. 2200 seems be the full class size at Kelley each year. 800/4000 - didn’t look very promising to us, not saying not doable, but definitely a risk. My son is not interested in any other major or college at Kelley, so from top choice, it has dropped out of consideration.

Did he put in an appeal?

Yes he did. Received a rejection today, but he was unbothered as he has moved on - he actually already committed elsewhere 2 weeks ago. Mom was still waiting for the decision lol

Do you mind sharing the reason for appeal. Trying to gauge the differentiators / likelihood of getting off a waitlist… but congrats to your son on his decision!!!:tada::clap:

Got waitlisted. Getting waitlisted is a huge achievement because it doesn’t even mean you are “rejected” if you don’t get in after the waitlist.

Appealed with no test score due to high academic rigor and good EC’s. Ended up on the waitlist, which is quite shocking!

In case anyone finds this helpful. My daughter appealed as TO. She wrote the two essays and chose to list all of her ECs similar to a resume in the additional information section of the petition. We heard something about this last year as Kelley only looks at the transcript, test scores and the petition essays. They do not see the common app. We decided to call and ask in the fall. Kelley admissions said, “you can use the additional info section to tell us anything you want us to know bc we don’t see your Indiana application. It is appropriate to list relevant activities/experiences or information regarding your appeal like “I don’t test well.” That’s what they said. She was admitted off of petition in February. I’m not saying this helped but it didn’t hurt. Some will say they are obligated to say this but they seemed very encouraging about it. She ultimately chose a different program. Petition is really stressful. Good luck to all.

Can you clarify? My daughters letter said that a final decision will be sent 4/24

It means that your final decision for DIRECT ADMISSION will be sent 4/24, but not getting in off the waitlist doesn’t mean you are rejected from Kelley entirely. You will go in as pre-business freshman year and if you maintain all B’s you are guaranteed admission to Kelley sophomore year.

Son also waitlisted. His SAT was 1500+ and GPA unweighted was 3.85, but his school does not print the GPA on the transcript. High rigor classes in a competitive independent school. :woman_shrugging:

Daughter waitlisted as well.. We visited yesterday, the campus was quite impressive, the students at Kelley seemed quite driven from what we could see..

With these stats, I’m sure your son would have better options. Good riddance.

This is a combination of yield protection, and oversimplified admission criteria to minimize effort on their end. They’d much rather spend on marketing and rah-rah about the school than thoughtfully selecting the best possible applicants.
Otherwise it’s crazy that they’d auto admit someone with a 1370 SAT and 3.8 W GPA (even without any rigor), against 1500+ SAT and 3.85 UW, just because school doesn’t print it.

FWIW, at my D’s school out of 20+ students who have a Kelley DA only 1 is committing as they don’t have any other DA option; rest are all going for other schools like Ross, UIUC, Villanova, UW-Madison, Purdue etc.

Thank you for this perspective.
And exactly - Kelley has become a safety for kids who wanted to go to other schools but did not get in. Something to keep in mind about when thinking about the make up of the class.

My son was rejected. International, 4.0GPA at an IB school. 94% average for Year 11 and 12. Applied TO hence the request review.
He committed to another business school last week so he’s not upset; not meant to be ! Wishing all a successful year ahead.

It’s their loss; where’s he going?
My DD is split between Ross and Purdue IBE (she loves the program, and I love less than half fees compared to Ross).. lol
