IU Kelley Petition Tracker 2025

I was high on emotions, when I posted my rants late last night after DD received that invite to attend pre business webinar from Kelley (not IU).
Felt like a soft rejection. A direct rejection would have been better.
Quite honestly, and if I think fairly, considering and prioritizing TO kids in review requests may be a reasonable thing to balance their class.
I guess DD got a bit unlucky in this process, and that’s OK.
Still can’t rationalize though that they have given decisions to several people in less than a week after submitting review request… lol.

Is this really a thing (making the required classes more difficult so fewer Pre-Business can enroll)? My son’s direct admit schools are looking better and better! Agree that Kelley’s policies are frustrating. Son would have been admitted DA if his school printed the GPA on the transcript. Oh well! Don’t want to invest in a visit given the unlikely success of his petition and agree that an (earlier) decision one way or another would be preferable.

I consider it is a demand and supply issue when you have already filled up a majority of seats in Direct admission (including review petition). Penn State- everybody starts at a fresh base even if admitted to Smeal and so a fair shot for all in Smeal or DUS to get into major. MSU Broad- some direct admit but majority secondary admission process classified as Prebusiness- the score for secondary admits seems to increasing every year including GPA requirement) and experiential EC’s. IU- GPA requirement is set but if they have too many direct and review petition admits, the only way they can control enrollment due to space constraints later on is more harsh GPA grading. Not saying it will happen but a fair possibility and risk to be taken into consideration if you have good schools with direct admit or something like PSU already in the bag!

In the webinar invite for pre-business students one of the topics is, “Important updates on review requests.”
I’d reckon the standard admit process is going to become more stringent than it already is.
Standard Admit is out of question for us; thankfully kiddo isn’t heads-over-heels in love with Kelley to go that route.

I will add more thing to be taken into consideration…if a kid somehow doesn’t get the freshman grades to be admitted into business school major, what other options are enticing for the kid and also rating of the other programs and the university as a whole. That is what we will be deciding for any Prebusiness admits vs direct admits in terms of ranking

That’s solid advice, and also the reason why pre-business admit at IUB is ruled out for us.
Even otherwise most kids will have comparable/better direct admits right off the bat.
Kelley has done their Math for standard admit criteria, they know that most competitive kids won’t pick that option in the first place, besides the weed-out classes will ensure that the volumes are controlled.
Initially I used to wonder, how could they guarantee standard admit with a seemingly reasonable criteria; now I know a bit better.

Daughter was DA to Kelley via petition. Her acceptance was sent on February 11th. The IUB- Kelley School of Business First- Year Student Scholarship Application closed on February 1st. We did not have access to it prior. Is there a way for petition students to fill this out? I’ve contacted SC but no response.

All, you should listen to the webinar! Standard admit to Kelley is absolutely possible!! I have 2 Hoosiers. One freshman DA one junior wasn’t DA. Kelley has planned for plenty of room for those kids who work to achieve a B in each class. They don’t want to see anyone fail, that is not the feeling either of my students have seen.

The general feel my freshman is feeling is collaborative. They study together. Help each other. The only kids she has seen giving up on the possibility of achieving standard admit are the ones that don’t go to class/struggle and decided early first semester that Kelley is not for them and they quickly changed their path to different majors/goals. She’s also seen DA kids struggle in certain classes. Adjusting to college life is also a big factor, not just class work.

There is plenty of extra help provided in each class including test reviews and study sessions. These are all smart kids whether DA or pre business. It’s in the mindset/personality of the student.

Good luck to all waiting! My DA was off the review and she is thriving academically, attending all extra study sessions and helping her friends she sees struggling.

There’s nothing to disagree here.
The point is kids who have other DA options are better off not risking a single B- killing their chances. Even the best of the best can have a tough time in adjusting to college, so unless someone is dead set on Kelley and/or don’t have other options, better weigh this carefully.

My apologies. Not a waitlist.

Thanks for sharing your kids experience, always good to get insight from people who have been there. We spoke to admissions last week and they said 20-30% of standard admits make it to DA as Sophmores. Seems awfully low since they all knew they were taking a risk and it was do or die. Also not looking good for the boys on the petition review acceptances this year- I’ve seen about 12 people post their kid got in and 11 were daughters. It also seemed like the vast majority were recently submitted which was interesting because in prior year threads it seemed like the earlier you submitted the better. Does not seem to apply this year.

I totally agree! This whole review request seems so flawed. My daughter has a 1500 SAT, 4.14 GPA weighted and 3.81 unweighted, president of NHS, DECA, and MUN but she transferred high schools so she doesn’t qualify for DA, ridiculous! Might I add she submitted her review request in October! I hope she hears back soon!

True - but a son with those same stats might not fare as well with the current process unfortunately

I think a student who transfers high school and keeps grades up shows resiliency! I did that (almost 3 decades ago  and it was hell! Crossing fingers for her.

My daughter has worked incredibly hard and deserves to be accepted. As well I would like to remind you that Kelley is predominantly male.

Thank you so much! She also transferred to a residential college prep school, the top rated public high school in Indiana! So proud of her and her hard work!

I don’t know, it just sounds a little patronizing. My DD has better stats than most males in her very competitive class, and doesn’t need any hooks from Kelley.
Kelley DA criteria is flawed—that’s the one thing I’d agree on.

Of course!! I absolutely agree. Just stating that the petition process favors female applicants. And your particular scenario is ridiculous that they can’t handle through the regular process.

And Auto DA favours XYZ, so on and so forth…

Although not perfect, I do appreciate the transparency of the IU Direct Admit process.
