Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship- 2012

My friend was informed today that he did not get it. He is chemical engineer major with a 4.0. I feel so sorry for him. I don’t know how he’s going to afford the school he got into otherwise. :frowning: This is a very competitive scholarship!

I’m sorry for your friend - I’m sure something else will come through for him, though.

I don’t think I got it. Called my scholarship director today but she left today on vacation for a freaking week. I’m thinking if she heard anything, she would have told me before she left. sigh

Got the notification email from the foundation this morning; I didn’t get it.

Well, my suspicions were accurate. When I walked into the president’s office, all of the administrators, my favorite professors, and my parents broke into applause. I nearly fainted. I won! I can’t believe it!! :D

Congrats to the winners and condolences to those that did not get awarded. Hopefully we hear from the foundation soon for details on how the scholarship works!

Does anybody who won care to share their stats? I intend on applying next year and I want to see how and where I can improve.

Thanks!

dianelilith,
I think, be yourself on every essay. think on the 3W.
Stats.
4.0
tons of awards n extracurriculars activities.

I’m really shocked by reading some others stats… really sad for you azfazchas. Dianelilith, i can post later, but I’m warning you I’m no perfect 4.0 person. The feelings of inferiority are already beginning

the grade is not the most important thing. U just need to have a good enough GPA… Its the combination of things that would make u win I think. Be yourself when u write… that is important…

I agree - I don’t think the GPA is everything. I’m sure all of the candidates are great students, otherwise they wouldn’t have been nominated. This is just a guess based on what I have read about the foundation, but it seems they are looking for people that have a passion for something and are likely to give back to the community in some way. Again, this is just a guess.

My stats:
4.0 GPA
Transferring to Northwestern
EC include honors club, PTK, some NASA programs and starting a STEM after school program for under-resourced youth.
I work full-time and am also a mom.

I’m sorry, I failed to share my stats! For the record:

4.0 GPA / 56 Credit hours at the end of Spring 12
President of my college’s Student Government chapter
Treasurer of Mock Trial team
Founder of Honors Community (Student org for honors students)
Member of Phi Theta Kappa and Psi Beta
Top Witness in Mock Trial region
Several in-college scholarships and awards

I’m also paying completely out of pocket… no parental help at all, and so far, I’ve done everything from savings. I work 2 jobs (maybe not much longer!), but I make it happen. Of course, not even 2 jobs will start to cover SMU costs when I transfer this fall.

I am thrilled and honored to have received this amazing scholarship, and it has been great reading your stories. I am now just itching to hear from the foundation! :D

Also, I just got the call from the foundation today (confirming the scholarship and giving me full details). I sure you will all be hearing directly from them soon as well! :D

@afazchas, how did you get an email from the foundation? Did you have to contact them first??

I got the call as well. :D

I called the phone number - 800-310-4053 and was told that they have notified all non-winners. But I haven’t gotten any notification of anything and just talked to my scholarship rep and she said she has not received any notification either. I have not been able to sleep and my stomach has been in knots just thinking about it! oye!

Maybe your school is trying to surprise you! I just got a call from the foundation today, but I know other people have said the schools can ask for more time to notify you.

I’m not getting my hopes up. It could be just a forgotten or lost email :</p>

Did anyone is this forum not hear anything yet?

Hi Everyone! It’s so nice to see so many other JKC applicants just as nervous as i am!! I got the only nomination from my college and it just blew me away. I feel like i didn’t really realize what a big deal it is until i got the nomination!

Anyhoo, i look forward to chatting with you all so we can support each other through the waiting!!

Hey Ciresu!

This is actually last year’s thread. All of these folks have already heard their results. You should probably start a 2013 thread to talk to this year’s candidates though for sure!
