Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship 2020

Everyone, I wanted to shout out on here that we may be operating on inaccurate info that you must first be sent the second e-mail requesting additional information to get an interview.

This is a post from @TandemRiding on 3-28-19 in last year’s thread, long after most of the other participants had completed their interview:

“I got an e-mail today asking to schedule an interview. I thought they would have been done by now, and it may just be evidence that they do them in waves (or I’m an anomaly). I was not asked to fill out extra CSS paperwork or anything.”

I bring this up because I know some of those who didn’t get the second email are counting themselves out. It’s not over until it’s over. It takes until April for a reason. Let’s all relax and let time and the JKCF do their thing!

I didn’t post this yet because all of you sound so amazing and I’m honestly a little intimated. I’m going to post my info though because I’d like to make some friends here as we share in this scary but exciting experience.

University: UPenn, NYU, Princeton

Stats

College GPA:4.0

Major: I’m going to be getting my associates degree in education but when I transfer I plan on pursuing an English degree.

Volunteer Hours (approx): When I submitted the app it was around maybe 30. I volunteer for 2 hrs every week at my college’s food pantry.

Essays (Personal opinions/critiques): I think I did pretty well with these and got my story across. I got 2 professors to kind of look them over as well.

Teacher Recs: I got recs from teachers who know me very well. I’ve had 5 classes with one and he was also the literary magazine advisor/advisor for PTK

Hook (if any): I dropped out of high school because of family hardships growing up. My family has a history of drug addiction and illness. I’m also transgender and in the process of medically transitioning.

Sex/gender: AFAB, Trans-masculine
Pronouns: He/Him/His

Ethnicity:Caucasian / Asian (Filipino)

Other Factors:
I work overnights along with being a full time student. I am the editor/president of my CC’s literary magazine. I’m also the treasurer of the Pride Club. As you can probably tell from all of my info I’m very interested in literature and LGBTQ advocacy.

@WhiteWoolf You’re amazing! thank you for sharing a little about yourself and your stats, if anyone else would like to share their stats please do so!

I shared my stats in last year’s Jack Kent Cooke semifinalist forum If anyone is interested, so you can click on my profile and look through my past replies to find it. but my stats today compared to last year are pretty different.

@WhiteWoolf you sound accomplished in your own right! Good luck! I can’t wait to hear where you go.

did anyone else get an email from CORNELL because of the JKC program?

im literally like - im not a semi finalist but thanks for noticing me lol

@heyigotnoclue nope, but my emails are a mess. Haven’t gotten anything JKCF related.

I just got rejected for the second time in a row from this congressional internship program

Do y’all have any summer plans??

Yeah, I just got an email from Cornell as well.

Also thank you guys for your kind words.

@kb199977 im sorry! Political science positions are notoriously… well, political in the admissions process.

I’m still looking forward to the other things on your horizon!!

@kb199977 my summer plans are Catalyst so far. How about yours?

Is anyone else attending Catalyst this year?

Yeah I will be attending the Catalyst as well, a great event to network with fellow Kappans.

@iggywiggly thank you for the message you posted earlier, I appreciate it. You ignited 10% within me again lool but yeah we’ll see the final result by April (crossing my damn body for it) Wish you best of luck for all of you guys really

@BigHero YAY! Nice to see some PTK pride here!

@tahiatounes I’m glad it helped. I had been stressing really hard about it for several weeks and realized what I can do is already done. So my goal is to relax and put 100% of my effort into my charity work and school, and when April comes I won’t have worked myself up into a frenzy about JKCF. There are AMAZING people on this thread and I’m glad we are in this together.

Those of you who received an email to complete a CSS profile, have you heard anything else from JKCF since you submitted it?

@Philippekaa I haven’t

@Philippekaa No, and I have a hunch no one will hear anything until at least the end of the week.

I hope everyone’s doing well!

@iggywiggly sure?.

Aside those having the PTK catalyst on their plans for the summer, is there anyone else applying to summer research internship programs at the NIH?

@Philippekaa No, I’m a political science major so I be doing summer research programs like Big 10, NSF, and Leadership Alliance.

@kb199977 I’m poli sci too, and it would be so cool if we happened to cross paths in an internship this summer! Which one are you most excited for?!

@Philippekaa This summer, I will be giving a speech to an international community on human trafficking and some research that re-defines the current academic standard for sex trafficking. I’m really excited because the issue remains misunderstood by society and academia alike and I hope to change, or at least challenge, these perspectives!!

@iggywiggly thanks for doing the great work that you’re doing, I’ve never met anyone doing what you’re doing and I think it’s so important that people understand that issue!

So I applied to NSF’s REU on Immigration Policy. I really hope to be invited to participate in that program because I’m passionate about immigration policy and would like that issue to be the focus of my research now as I move forward to a four-year institution
