@iggywiggly yes I did apply for the PTK scholarships, but if you are a semifinalist you aren’t allowed to disclose whether you were one or not according to PTK, so I’m gonna act like this conversation isn’t happening ?
@SilverMomma you sound like a great candidate, you bring much diversity and embody the great diversity that community colleges possess! I wish you the best of luck
Semifinalist emails are out, congrats to all!
Rejections are out too!
Congratulations to those who made the cut! I’ll go take a nap now.
Kind of shocked I didn’t make semifinalist. I didn’t think I had a real shot at winning, but I was aiming for making it through the first round. Hopefully, this isn’t indicative of how my transfer apps are going to be this year. I wish I knew the strengths/weaknesses of my JKC app. I honestly poured so much effort into it over multiple months.
Congrats to everyone who made it through. Seems like there was a lot of stiff competition, and you should be very proud of the achievement.
@kb199977 I totally forgot that we weren’t allowed to share and CC won’t let me delete the comment. Dang it.
Well, in any event, I am a JKCF semifinalist! Woot! Congrats to everyone!
@Transfersssss I’m sorry! I was sure after reading your stats that you’d make it. Please don’t let this take away from your wonderful achievements. JKCF seems to look at certain things and are fairly mysterious as to what they are. You are a great student and, from what you’ve posted here, person!
Congratulations to all of you who made it! I was not a semifinalist this year, but I am excited that I know a couple of very deserving people who are. Well done guys!
And for those of you who did not make it, I know it might sting, but keep your head up, continue to pursue your dreams, and don’t let this challenge what you think of yourself!
@JellyPeeps i am so sorry! You have a compelling app and I was rooting for you. Thanks for all your advice, I hope you achieve all your dreams!
Just saw the email stating that I made it as a semifinalists! Totally unexpected… I wish all the semifinalists good luck and for those who didn’t make it, I’m sure you guys are going to still excel in your educational path!!!
@TraderJ0e Yay!!! I hope we are both selected!! Congrats to you!
@JellyPeeps im so sorry, I’m honestly at a loss for words. BUT, I know you’ll be fine because you’re such a fantastic student and person! I’m excited to see the big things you do in the future!
Everyone else, I am super excited to be a semifinalist with you and I wish the best for all of us
@kb199977 Thanks! I know how competitive it is and, although I am disappointed, I still have everything going for me that I had before I applied. I am super excited for all of you that made it this far! What an accomplishment.
Congratulations, peeps!
Congratulations everyone! I am so excited to see all of the notifications coming in and so looking forward to seeing where you all go, this is such a magical time – try to enjoy it all
@JellyPeeps - I’ve been following this thread since the beginning and I am so disappointed they lost out on such a wonderful candidate. You poured your heart and soul into this forum as I am sure you did in your application. I sat on the sidelines silently cheering for you and we don’t even know each other. You have been incredibly kind and inspiring to the members of this thread, you remain humbled and I know your big break is coming. I’m going to keep rooting for you, you’re going to do great things.
@freudianschlep Thank you for that post. You don’t know how much I appreciated (and needed) that.
I was rejected but received an email from Smith and Mt. Holyoke that started off like this,
“Congratulations from Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges
Dear (redacted)
We received your name from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation as a talented and promising college student – congratulations on your considerable achievements to date! We write with the hope that you will consider applying to transfer to Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges, both renowned liberal arts colleges for women located in Massachusetts.”
And so on…
Is this standard even though I was rejected? I’m not saying that me being rejected was a mistake, by any means, but do they typically still send your information along to colleges and (insert Dumb and Dumber quote) are they saying I still have a chance?
@freudianschlep Definitely apply! Well, if you are interested in those schools. A lot of people apply to the JKC scholarships, but I would imagine very few are unqualified. It is more likely the case that you have this amazing group of people who are achieving remarkable things or overcoming obstacles and challenges that would deter other people. And from that perspective, likely the majority of applicants are high-achieving and stand a chance at getting into these schools. So, if your information was forwarded, definitely take a chance. I think that is a good indication of what the foundation thought of your application.
.
@freudianschlep I just went through my promo and junk folders and I received the same email. SO it seems as though JKCF is sending out applicant info to selective colleges. Definitely apply if you are interested.
