How funny! For a moment I was super duper excited and thought maybe it was a fluke, rechecked the list and my name did not reappear. Oh well, life goes on!
@JellyPeeps- not to be a creep but am literally laying in bed and just read my husband your stats and we are both wondering what in the world the judges were thinking. Your stats are freaking incredible!! Absolutely amazing!! I’m not even upset about myself being rejected anymore , I’m more upset you didn’t make semi at least. I mean… come on. You have so many accomplishments that are profoundly meaningful.
@iggywiggly i really appreciate it. As long as I have better luck in my transfer apps, I’ll be fine. Just discouraging. I’m hoping the strengths in my app are viewed differently by colleges.
@JellyPeeps I have no idea how you weren’t selected. I’m shocked. I know you have great things ahead of you though. However, I really thought you had a legit chance of being one of the winners. They really missed out on having an amazing individual represent the foundation. Oh well, you’ll find yourself representing a great institution soon enough.
@freudianschlep @Transfersssss Thanks, guys. I appreciate the sentiment. Honestly, I kind of thought the same thing. :neutral: I am sure there were just so many competitive applicants, they can’t pick everyone. I am disappointed, but I have a lot to be thankful for and look forward to, so heds up, y’all!
And if anyone wants to go over transfer apps or anything let me know. I am a crazy paper editor. I think after all things are said and done, I plan to reapply to Yale and apply to the University of Chicago. Then, depending on where I am accepted, I will compare the financial aid between those and the other two and pick from there.
(SIDE NOTE–I didn’t know too much about UChicago, but it is a phenomenal school, especially for humanities and social sciences. They are also a Tier 1 research school and provide full funding to everyone admitted. On top of that, they don’t require standardized test scores, if yours are questionable! Okay, sorry for the ad. LOL)
And I definitely do not intend for this post to sound salty! Really well done to all those who made it!
@Transfersssss I know someone from my school who was rejected by JKCF last year and they got in to the Eli Whitney program at Yale. I think JellyPeeps is right, it’s basically like picking diamonds out of a pile of diamonds. I know it might sting a bit, but it hasn’t taken anything from you. You still have the same drive, grit, and aptitude for success. I have a feeling that with your stats and past successes, transfer institutions would be foolish not to accept you.
Have any semifinalist started getting email solicitations yet? I’m kind of worried something is up with my email, I haven’t received anything yet.
@iggywiggly haha don’t worry, I haven’t received anything either. You’ll receive them all in time, but if you don’t receive them, it’s not like it makes or breaks your chances of getting into any of those schools
@kb199977 Thanks. I also haven’t gotten the semifinalist email, so I’m concerned. I am published on the list and the foundation confirmed it was sent to the right address, but I have yet to receive it.
@iggywiggly omg no way??? That’s crazy, did they tell you that they’d send you one?? Really all that matters is that you’re a semifinalist but the email is pretty nice too
I emailed them and they confirmed that they have the right email address, but I haven’t heard back yet on whether they will send a new one.
What I’m really worried about is maybe not getting the request for more info email or something else important, and losing out due to a stupid tech problem.
Oh well, I hope it’s just a one time thing ??♀️
@iggywiggly Yeah, I’m sure a lot of applicants are very similar, and it basically comes down to small nuances. I know a rejection from the scholarship doesn’t necessarily mean my school apps won’t be successful.
I’m rooting for you and @kb199977 to win. Both very deserving individuals with great stories and accomplishments.
@Transfersssss absolutely not! Please share your acceptance to wherever on here for me to celebrate with you!
Thanks for your kind words! I guess we will see what happens! I’m rooting for everyone else too!
Congratulations to the Semi Finalists! So excited.
@FABRICEV are you part of the semifinalist club too?! Congrats!
@iggywiggly Yes! Thanks so much.
@FABRICEV
Feel free to share your stats if you’d like! Yippee!
Hiii guys !!! I made it ! Do you know what the steps are and how they decide if you become a finalist?
@fluffycotton Yay! Congrats to you!
From what I have gleaned after reading prior years’ threads, many of the semifinalists who were selected received an e-mail requesting more information. After that, JKCF conducted interviews. While the e-mail and interview were good indications of being a finalist in prior years, some scholars were not interviewed and still selected, and some interviewees were rejected.
JKCF seems to keep their methodologies under tight lock, so until April none of us will know. Regardless, being a semifinalist is an accomplishment on its own! Let’s try to enjoy the ride and congrats to you!
been working on college apps so I’ve been super busy, but I come back to see that much more people are starting to join this forum!!! Wooo
@Transfersssss thank you so much for your support, you have no idea how much it means to me! Please, If you’d like, stick around so we can know the amazing things you do and achieve! Regardless of semifinalist designation or not, everyone in this thread is unique and amazing. I hope to strengthen this support network as we all look to transfer this year!
Also, none should be discouraged if you weren’t a semifinalist. Many of my peers were accepted for transfer admission to institutions including UChicago, Pomona College, Yale College, and Columbia without JKCF. Keep working hard and you’ll achieve your goals!
Has anyone applied to the Eli Whitney Student’s Program at Yale?
I just submitted all my components and I’m super nervous.
