Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship 2020

Hi, how is everyone doing? It’s been a couple of weeks since semifinalists were named, has anyone heard anything?

Hi guys I’m new here. I was selected as a semifinalist yay! And I just want to let you guys know that I got an email this afternoon from the jckf asking for more information. Good luck to everyone!

@ml94ml welcome and congrats! I also received that email yesterday afternoon, and so did my two other friends from other community colleges. I’m not sure if everyone received it though

Hi Guys I got an email as well! I wonder if all the semifinalist will receive a similar one or not. I wish you all good luck.

New here as well. Havent recieved anything, but I’ll keep looking until next week or something.

Good luck to yall.

Hello,

Haven’t received anything yet :frowning: Does anyone know whether this email is a rolling process or a timed thingy?

Hey guys, Im a semi-finalist and didn’t get an update email. Normally they all send them together. Trust me, I really really really hate to say this but for those who didn’t get the second email are unlikely to get it and here’s why. I have gone to multiple threads for the previous years and it was always the same pattern: semi-finalist, additional information email, interview, then you get it.

Here’s a survey made by last year’s thread (Im just gonna copy and paste):

SURVEY RESULTS

A total of 55 people filled out the survey. Of the 55, 1 person did not say whether they had won. They were counted as not having received the award.

A total of 23 people won the scholarship (Winners) and 32 did not (Non-Recipients).

Results for Winners:

Gender
M: 10
F: 13

Age
18-20: 9
20-29: 9
30-39: 5
40-49: 0
50+: 0

Were you sent a second email asking for more information by JKC?
Y: 21
N: 2

Were you interviewed by JKC?
Y: 21
N:2

END OF WINNERS RESULTS

Results for Non-Recipients:

Gender:
M: 13
F: 18
O: 1

Age:
18-20: 18
20-29: 10
30-39: 3
40-49: 1
50+: 0

Were you sent a second email asking for more information by JKC?
Y: 3
N: 29

Were you interviewed by JKC?
Y: 1
N: 31

END OF NON-RECIPIENT RESULTS

Other Observations:

91.3% of winners surveyed received an interview and second email.

There were no people who received only an interview, so it’s safe to assume that the only way to get interviewed is by first getting a second email for additional info.

Not getting interviewed or emailed to doesn’t mean that you are no longer in the running. However, your chances of winning the scholarship drop significantly (<1%)

Getting to the interview almost guarantees your win, but a small minority of candidates who make it this far do not win.

Ask any additional questions you have. I’ll be more than happy to answer anything I can.

Do you know if they send them out all at once or in waves? I also heard the second email was for any mistakes and for the CSS Profile but I have done that along with IDOC.
Asides from that, I’m not sure what else is on there.

If it’s the same as last years’, then I’m assuming the email sent was q financial statement email with a deadline.

Past that deadline (end of February I believe), it’s fair to assume the dead end situation.

Hi guys! Congrats on the emails! I have not received it, but I’m proud of all of you who moved on.

Congrats to everyone who got the 2nd email! I m a semifinalist as well but I haven’t received a second email so this might be the end of the journey for me.

As a semifinalist from last year, I remember that there were a couple of semifinalists who didn’t receive the second email AND didn’t receive the interview email either, and they still won. Don’t be down about it, keep going strong!

@kb199977 thank you. This has been such a learning process for me. I’ll stick around because I want to cheer on every powerful person in this thread. I can’t wait to hear what news you all get. I’m still here for support and encouragement if anyone needs it! Great job and good luck, guys!

I am a semifinalist and received an email for additional information. I am guessing this is a good thing?

I’m new to this site and just made a profile so I could say hello to my fellow semifinalists on here. I got the email for additional information as well. I hope this is a good sign like everyone on here is saying. To everyone who didn’t get it, you are all still amazing. From the stats I have seen you are all brilliant. Any college would be lucky to have you and I’m sure that no matter what happens we will all go on to do wonderful things.

If you guys dont mind asking, for those who recieved the 2nd email, did you take the SAT and report it? If so, do you mind sharing your scores?

Thanks

Also, I wanted to ask for those who recieved the 2nd email can share what date they recieved it. Just wanted to figure out if they send them out in bulks or in waves.

I got the email on the 6th at 5pm. I think I did report my SAT, but it wasn’t really stellar. I dropped out of high school and never took it until recently. If I had to guess it was all of my extracurricular stuff and 4.0 that made up for it though. I also think I have a pretty good hook and recs.

I am a semifinalist who recieved a follow up email.

I dont have a 4.0 gpa, I didn’t submit SAT scores as I’ve never taken them. There was an Interruption in my education but now I’m back. Challenging myself and those around me at every opportunity.

@thelegitbrian I don’t think SAT is really important to them more than your college GPA. If you were a freshman, I might say SAT can be a good helper. I am a non tradional student, finished high school over 18 years ago. I never did SAT, but I am super involved at my college, clubs, honor societies and volunteering. They are not looking for superman, but I think they are looking for someone, who was brave enough to close his textbook and find time to connect with his community, a cause that he cares for. They are also looking for some really financial hardship that is stopping you from achieving your dream. Overall, I think it is a combination of academic(gpa, awards, honor classes, talents, etc), Leadership( clubs, honor societies, membership), service(Volunteering), and how well were you preparing for your career like( research, internships), the recommandation play a great part as well but must come from someone who really knows you, and speak truly about not only your academic but your personality and treats.
